I'm leaving for England in a week, and am planning to have some of my equipment shipped over. I'm obviously trying to figure out the cheapest way to do it. Admittedly, I'm totally clueless as to shipping prices from the US to other countries. Anyone know approx. how much it costs to ship, oh, lets say a turntable, from the US to Engalnd. It doesn't need to get there overnight or anything...but I also don't want to wait a month to get it. Thanks.
second question....
I know prices on DJ equipment in Engalnd isd outragiously expensive....does the same go for other European countries...like France or Holland or any others...thanks |

Yeah, DJ Equipment is way more expensive in Europe... Cheapest countries i know are Germany & Holland (I got my equip from holland -> www.new-line.nl).
Oh and if u wanna ship ur stuff to europe, i'm afraid you'll have to pay a lot of import taxes. At least that's what i've heard and that's why european people never buy @ american online stores etc...
I've heard of a way to avoid that, sending it as a gift or something, but i'm not sure if that's correct. Read it here on the forum so i guess you should be able to find it somewhere. |

That's only if you buy new stuff though... I think if it's yours and you intend to take it back to the states with you, there is nothing to pay. If you were going to move to Europe and move all your belongings it would be outragous if you had to pay tax on all of it. See what I mean.
But sure.. the tax you have to pay from stores is ridiculous. What's funny though is that it's still cheaper for me to buy a CD in the US, then pay the tax, than it would be for me to do out and buy one here in the UK.
Major record labels are trying to crack down on people who buy CDs from the US but I think that is a serious attack on our rights as consumers and our human rights.
Have you noticed how the import tax is actually more than the tax we have here?
Cheers

| well we pay £1000 pounds for the new allen and heath mixer. work out the price differences from that. This country is more expensive in every single way. You had just better hope you don't drive cost we pay double what you americans do. |

I buy all my secondhand equip. in the US, and shipping prices are usually between $100 and $200. Don't expect less, but more is also unprobable.
Best prices in europe i've found: www.recordcase.de and in some items www.turnkey.co.uk |

When i buy sneakers from the states (i have a serious nike collection) normally costs about $30 per pair to ship over...... that is via air mail and takea about 2 days.Obviously as a pair of 1210s weighs 14kg (plus whatever else you want to ship) you might be lokkign at a bit for shipping those....best bet it to call fedex or UPS and find out.
Surface mail takes ages- like 4 weeks- far too long
If they are marked as valued under something like $20 and 'gift' it avoids the import duty (10%) and VAT (17.5%) that you have to pay before i can have them....
its still happened a few tims tho- even with things that arent new.
Sucks really- its at customs discretion whether you pay up or not |

so I'm looking at paying as much as $100 to have ONE piece of eauipment shipped over? I'm looking to send over my cdj1000, one SL1200, and my denon mixer.
4 weeks is a little long to wait, but if it means saving a couple $100, I guess I might have to bite the bullet. |

| It's per weight. With those items, i think $130 is the minimum (air mail of course). |

When dealing with larger and or heavier items, freight fowarding is a better option.
Do a search for freight fowarding companies to UK, see what your options are. |
