Spinning with 2 different Technics?

What are your feelings about spinning with 2 different Technics?
A shop sent me an MK5 (which I ordered) and mistakenly an M5G. It was too expensive for them to pay for shipping the M5G back, and then shipping out a new mk5, so I can pay a few bucks extra to keep the M5G.
I am going back and forth trying to decide if its okay. They are both black.
The only real difference is the blue LED and the pitch to +16%.
Would you find it to be a big deal? Maybe it would be good to have 1 that pitches higher, although I may only do that once a month? |

If i were you, i would keep the M5G, and get another one as well.
tell the shop it's their mistake, and you are willing to pay extra to buy the 2 M5Gs, if they ship the M5 back, and the M5G to you for free, it is after all resolving their mistake.
if not that, then just keep what you have, it's the stores loss. |

Of course I would want 2 M5Gs. I even put my MK5 on the for sale forum on tuesday. i figure if I can get what I paid for it, then its worth it.
If I ship back the mk5, I have to pay for it. and then pay for the m5g and shipping.
if i ship back the m5g, they pay for it and ship me another mk5, which is what i originally purchased.
the shop wont send me another m5g and cover shipping, they will swap out the mk5 though.
so is it a big deal to use 2 different technics? even though they are close? |

Then, why did you order 2 MK5s?

I would ask to speak to the manager. Tell them you are very dissapointed in the service, that this is a problem to you, get irate. Tell them that you want to M5Gs, and you will pay the extra price to upgrade them both. at this point, he's making an extra sale, and still has to ship one deck out, and one deck back, same as always, so it's a good deal for him. If he won't go for that, either tell him you deal with someone else, and send BOTH back, or just keep the MK5G and just don't pay. Believe me, he will rather work with you than lose money either way.
You have to be direct with people like this, and when THEY screw up, it gives you an immense piece of leverage.

that's up to you, not really. But then again, you do have the only significant upgrade to technics in 25 years on one deck (the extra pitch range), and basically a prettied up M3D on the other.. I'd get matching ones, because it would keep me up at night..
either that, or i suppose ANOTHER mk5, and have 2 of those and a m5g just in case you need more pitch.. but 3 tables is not something everyone wants, and if you couldn't afford the bit more for the Gs in the first place, i guess you can't afford a 3rd deck.
good luck! |

Briden, i think you are misunderstanding me.
I ordered the 2 MK5s, because i dodnt have the money for 2 m5g's.
they sent me one mk5 (which i ordered), and mistakenly an m5g (the grandmaster). i am keeping the m5g and instead of paying the difference i am paying just a few bucks more.
this is so the shop doesnt have to pay for shipping the m5g back to them and then shipping out another mk5, which i ordered.
i am already benefiting from their mistake.
if i want, i am sure i could just send back the m5g, and they will ship me the mk5 that i ordered.
problem is, i dotn want to wait for the tt to get here. damn thing has been in the box since monday because i am confursed as what to do. second is, i got an m5g, basically for the price of an mk5.
if i could sell the mk5 for what i paid for it, i would. and then just spend the extra $ on the upgrade. |

i understand you perfectly.
i think that you should try to get the shop to ship you another m5g, it's only a bit more.
if they won't do that, then sell the m5, and get a m5g somewhere else. |

or you can just suck it up and play with 2 different decks
i play on an mk2 and an m3d
never had a problem
one person told me i should sell my mk2 and upgrade to an m3d
my reply was "and how would that make my mixing any better?" |

I agree with Shockwav... keep the decks... you got an M5G, for the price of an Mk5...
And its not gonna matter when you mixing... unless you want everything to look the same... but whatever.. that doesn't affect your ability to mix either.. |

| I agree with the two previous posts. Unless your some sort of fetishist, just deal with it, as most people would love to have the decks you have... Right now I'm playing with two m3d's with two differant needles, and there really isn't much of a differance. Same would be true of the tt's, they are functionally the same except for the higher pitch range. |
