Hey I'm interested in creating progressive house music/trip hop kind of stuff (stuff similar to yunus guvenen... dark and proggy.... markus schulz is a good example as well)....
i'm just wondering if anybody knows some good sample cds (specific ones) / reason refills / VSTs / programs to create that ambient / chyll / trip hop / dark progressive sound..... looking for samples and such.... sorry if this question sux; i just havent come across dark stuff except for sample cds such as "twisted textures" and "distorted reality"..... if anybody knows any similar ones... that would be very helpful (i'm looking for dark church bells, ambient leads & textures, really evil instruments (dark evil drums) and such.... any comments on how the best way to create this kinda stuff and with what (i will most likely focus on using reason 2.5)...
I've been doing research on music theory; looking into many sample cds/refills.... and theres plenty of trance/techno stuff... and plenty of tutorials that suggest how to make trance/hardtrance.... but prog. house / trip-hop / ambient is.... how can i put this; from my experience... unmathematical... well there is certain patterns, but i guess less of them in some tunes (take a look at yunus guvenen a.k.a. mavi a.k.a. indigo child stuff).... i'm just looking for any help/information/knowledge someone can share with me on really trippy stuff production :) (telepopmusic - breathe [markus schulz remix] kinda stuff perhaps ;) )
thank you very much in advance
(any advice; no matter how irrelevant will be appreciated on prog. house/trip-hop production)

As for Vsts, Novation K Station is fun, hear this in alot of james holdens playlists.
Soulseek is rocking for refills, so many refills around, by the way yunus used a WHOLE Dr loop out of a reason refill in opus tune, including the kick hi hat and the4 bongo loop, found this amusing hehe.
Search on google also, dont be scared of free vsts instrumenets, effects and refills.
Peace out.Yo |

Do you know Delerium? I have seen in a studio photo they use AbSynth VST. Other interesting VST is "Spectrasonic Atmosphere" but I have not proved it but It's oriented to ambient atmospheric sounds.

thank you very much for all the info.... i've been up and just got
Spectrasonics - Metamorphosis (4 cds)
AKAI - BT - Twisted Textures (3 cds)
AKAI - Distorted Reality Vol. I (2 cds)
AKAI - Distorted Reality Vol. II (2 cds)
AKAI - Vince Clark Ambiance (1 cd)
ZeroG - Pure Trip Hop (1 cd)
^^^^^ the bomb!!!! i like distorted reality A LOT..... i recommend both volumes to all... they have "water tank" samples... and really creepy dark sounds.... exactly the stuff i was looking for; distorted reality also has refills for reason as well as vince clark and twisted textures.... i've also been able to get my hands on a lot of XXL (best service) stuff; great solid sounds...... now tryin to explore using atmosphere, halion, trilogy, stylus, kontakt, and reaktor..... mmmmmmmm...... tastey..... i'll probably be using reason as my sequencer; i know its all a matter of preference; but does anyone recommend a certain sequencer (ex: fruity, sonar, logic, reason, cubase) for ambient/proggy type of stuff... i guess the most effective one.... mmmm i know i wont get an answer to that question; too much flaming going on about sequencers these days ;)
Anywayz..... if anybody can help me with some more info on software/hardware..... techniques... tutorials... anything on producing prog. house / ambient (yunus guvenen / james holden / markus schulz kind of stuff) please post any relevant info.
Thank you very much for reading and taking time out to post in advance ;)
your buddy,

At last someone here who is also looking for progressive knowledge, hehe.
Im also trying and and having a hard time to learn the progressive ways of production, theres almost no info bout this here and other forums i participate, so i want (well, i need, lol) to exchange info on that.
Hook me on icq if u want.
Btw, Absynth rocks for that unusual ambience/dark/whriling pads and such.
Big Tick Angelina is good for that choir or airy pads |
