Here is my deal...

Recently i got diagnosed with some arthery disection in my neck... yadda yadda, but its being cause by expoisure to loud music, so i'm forced to get earplugs. Now, I am also a DJ and i have couple of gigs coming up where i will be exposed to very high decibels. I know you can get some earplugs medically/proffesionally done for like 150$ where they make ones to fit your ear perfect, but until then i need some substitute... so anyone knows/has experience with cheap earplugs that can be bought at the store and where and how much and your experience. Thanx for your answers

and yes, i did use search button first, but i rather interested with ppl's experiences

Get the Etymotic ER-20 earplugs, they attenuate sound evenly across the entire spectrum so you will hear the same thing, just softer. They only cost like $20 anyway :)

Try www.etymotic.com

I just posted this before on a similar thread. You can't do much better than $17, which is what Best Buy sells "The Plug" earphones for. Buy them, then do the mod.

If you're willing to get used to a bit alternative ones, and you are very careful with its cables, then.....

i put a hole in my ear drum about 4 months ago and talked to my specialist about plugs for when it was fixed. you are right in that they cost about $150 and he said they could get them in about 4 days after you had the mold made - id go straight to your local ear doctor and get some done mate - trust e - losing complete hearing in your ear is the worst thing alive - especially when you are like all of us and have music playing 24/7 - dont risk anything

good luck

god thats a scary thought... do you think it was just over exposure?

Wow this is definitely something not many people think about, myself included. I'm gonna get myself a pair of earplugs, as losing my hearing even partway would suck ass.

Sometimes it's overexposure, sometimes it's just a huge compression in the air (a.k.a. really-high decibel rating) for a short amount of time.

Oh and never ever listen to loud sounds when you have a cold or something similar, I've forgotten the exact reason behind it, but you can literally blow out your hearing. My old science teacher had a cold and went on an airplane, and when her ears popped she went completely deaf, blood flowing out of her ears, etc...

Deafness only lasted approx. 6 months, but still, something to keep in mind.

hi decibals do casue damage but most of the damage comes from bad sound waves....

i.e if you listen to music (loud) on a crappy system the distored waves are the ones which damage your ears... so if u have a really good system the damage is less....

i read a pvd interview once saying that he carries plugs with him but because he plays on good systems all the time he doesnt allways need them.....

but they are a must... loosing your hearing is the worst thing ever! you carry that with you all your life!
