ok this thread has nothing to do with the Technics TT. I want to know what the actual "mk2" means. When i first saw the 1200 mk2s i figured it was just like saying "mark 2" or the second gen on that particular turntable, but now they have the pioneer CDJ-1000 mk2. is there an actual technical definition of what mk2 means, because it sounds to me like pioneer is just trying to piggy back on the success and popularity of the 1200 turntable.

MKII stands for "Mark 2". Mark 2 products come out only if the manufacturer decides to make a change to their mainstream product (which sold thousands of copies), and then decided to discontinue that product and release an MKII version of that product.

The CDJ-1000's were a big success in product sales, but since Pioneer decided to change some minor things around and discontinue the original CDJ-1000, they released a follow up product with an MKII tag in the name.

Exactly, I was always led to believe they are just a second revision of the product...

although i understand the CDJ1000Mk2 has only a silver ring on the jog platter, and i think thats it. might have some difference in the pitch, but i dont really recall...
