Hey all,
I was wondering what everyone else out there is using to get music. I find Kazza very frusterating sometimes when i'm trying to find certain songs and if I do find them, it seems to never even start downloading, no matter how long I leave it on for. Are there anyother file sharing programs that are good to grab trance songs off of? I would certainly go out and buy the lp or cd for certain artist's and all but my town is really lacking in that area.
Thx a bunch |

| check out the online record store list or post in here, there are some good shops that you can sometimes get cheapers records (including shipping) than at your local stop (in responce to no good shops in your local area). as for online file sharing... someone else is gonna need to assist you in that matter. |

file sharing is not cool. you really should buy your music. if you want stuff for free, you can download sets that are hosted here, or on other music sites. just to let you know, you will probably get ripped a new one by some people on here for posting this.
from my experience on this board i can tell you that: "Tranceaddict.com in no way supports file sharing" |

You haven't heard of places like http://www.amazon.com?
And if they didn't have something you wanted, there's always www.ebay.com and this nifty thread.
Honestly, you're either very lazy and unwilling to spend some time to look for legitimate sources on your own, or you just want to illegaly download some compositions. Or there's always the third possibility that I haven't thought of...I like to leave room for error. |

Actually they used to, and I'm going to take this thread off target a little bit, because I feel it is necessary. I believe that file sharing is ESSENTIAL for the future Trance. It helps bedroom djs find out what the hot songs are, then they BUY them. People download the GDJB, ASOT, and get a feel for how a set should flow. I don't buy cds, but because I can download the songs before hand, now I buy the vinyls of songs that I like.
I've asked several producers which I will let be unnamed, and most of them said that they didn't mind their songs being shared on the hub, as long as it wasn't a vinyl rip that THEY gave to a friend, and SOMEHOW ended up on a hub, otherwise they embrace it.
Therefore, I believe that if all file-sharing of trance music was to stop tommorrow, trance would slowly decline and become dead in the future, because the hot djs of the future are the bedroom djs of today.

This is completely true, not only for vinyls but cd's as well. I've imported a lot of CD's at HMV because of the exposure i have to Trance music now. Al the file sharing has helped me develope my own style and own taste. Without the file sharing, who knows, i'd probably be still listening to cheese-euro, and that commercialized music they play on the radio. The internet opens your eyes to things, and music is a big one. All those artists that i've purchased cd's from can thank the internet, because if it wasnt for file sharing, i would have never thought i buying any of the cd's i have now. |

I too have found that most producers don't care about file sharing as long as the rips of their songs dont get released before the song is available for purchase, ie, unreleased...cause that can screw up the marketing and licensing crap. If they give the song to a friend or someone at a record lable for previewing, and then that "friend" uploads it, that's when they get pissed. A large amount of the vinyl-rips that come out are ripped from promotional vinyl, which has already been paid for. The smart artists realize that file-sharing exposes their music to vast new markets which would otherwise never be reached. Even if the person doesnt end up buying the music, it can still help the DJ/producer through esposure...perhaps that person downloading the mp3s will become such a big fan of the artist, that the next time they come DJ at a major city near them, they will make that trip to go see and support them. After all, most artists make the majority of their money off of DJ gigs. I discovered most if not all of the EDM music I know now because of mp3s. For people who arent in big metropolitan cities, the access to EDM is almost non-existant...what else are they supposed to do? Of course there are online record stores, but why pay the astronomical prices for vinyl & shipping if you are not sure you really like the music or if you're not a professional DJ. Yes, file sharing probably effects record sales negativly in the case of Pop music, but with EDM, I would argue that file-sharign positivly influences sales. I have bought hundreds of vinyl, that without mp3s I would have never heard of.
The official statement that TA does not support file sharing is, in my opinion, merely to protect us from persecution from the RIAA and to portray TA as a respectable institution. But lets face the reality: anyone on here who says they don't share/ download mp3s is a flat out liar. Whether we like to admit it or not, most of the music discussed in the Music forum and the New Releases comes from mp3s that we have heard or mp3s of live sets/ASOT/GDJB.
In this age, all DJs will have to become producers, and all producers will have to become DJs in order to be prosperous. Technology demands it. File sharing is a fact of life, and it is not going away any time soon.
Vinyl is getting rediculously expensive, so people like us who arent big time DJs can't afford it. As for the big time DJs, they rarely pay for any of their music anyways. They get most if not all of it for free as promos or cd-r's from producers they are friends with. Many of them have started using CD-Rs or Final Scratch in place of vinyl...and where do you think they get the music for that?
Im sure this thread will be locked soon, but if you want to know where to get music, just PM me or anybody else on this board, since we can't discuss it openly  |
