i heard that elipticals arent really good for DJing. because they are really rough on your vinyl, and you shouldnt back cue, or scratch with them. is this accurate? |

I hear mixed opinions about ellipticals vs. sphericals.
Some peeps will say that since the elliptical diamond head is wider that there will be less "digging" into your vinyl vs spherical.
I sort of believe that since the diamond head is a denser material than vinyl, the elliptical diamand head will scratch its elliptical shape into the vinyl regardless of how much downward force is felt by the vinyl. If your diamond head is touching the vinyl and sound is playing , then I believe that it is scratching its "elliptical" shape into the vinyl groove. ("spherical" diamonds heads will scratch "sperical" shape into the vinyl. So i guess spherical's will scratch deeper into the vinyl, while "ellipticals" will scratch more top surface area off.)
..Just my opinion with no real proof behind it..
but who really knows...
But anyways... I have heard the fidelity difference between a "spherical" diamond head vs. "elliptical", and the "elliptical's" seems to have a broader frequeny response and cleaner sound.
Im not really going to do mix-show scratching with themt, But I want to get the best possible sound out of the needle for my recordings. |

I just called the Canadian Contact number listed on the ORtofon website, and I asked the sales representative if they come in ellipticals, the dude had to ask a senior person, (cuz the product is apparently sooo new), and they said that ortofon will *NOT* be making an elliptical stylus for the Elektro models.
wickiddy wack... dayam...
Im gunna double check with the USA/N.Y ortofon INC. number and ask them the same question... (they are currently having some kind of snow storm at that office now..) |
