i heard people complaining trance isnt the same. as i say it, will not be nothing new, but i will say it!
when exactly trance will get more interesting? its been the same stuff for long time now and there isnt much progress.

anyway, as a person who grew up with trance i can say i am really disapointed. all the people who i knew back in the old trance days are grown up and realized that trance is for kids i guess and its time to move on. for those who listen to this same music in the past few years got to be out of their minds. for one, i am such person. i really have doubts if trance doesnt start changing.

for that kind of comment, you have to be really closed minded. trance is ever changing. more influences from techno and breaks. and if it's time to move on, the to what? if you say trance hasn't changed then neither has any other genre.

i think people just get tired of one style and have to bash it.

If people could have a bit more sense of timbre, they would know trance has been progressing rapidly, comparing with the other form of music.

and btw,
if you dislike or get bored with such style, just move on and no one would complain
rather than stick along and complaining the style itself then make yourself sad

Why does trance have to change?? :conf:

As long as new creative melodies and structures keep arising as they have done in the last decade then i'll be happy.

i am sorry, i am little behind here. whats the new sound of trance??

There are different forms of music appreciation in term of time scale.
Trance is a mean of structure that catagorizing certain form of similar kind of sound tracks. Why do people keep complaining the structure has been staying the same for years? Just like complaining why trance is still trance. Tell me why males still got their organs there and not evolving uh huh?

Listen deeper.

i dont know dude. i am trying really hard, but its the same old cheese to me. there is Tiesto with Traffic bringing something new to trance style and everybody is bashing him for it. i dont know what progress there will be if we start attacking anything new done to broad the genre further.

The tech-trance sound seems to be getting more popular.

I like it :)

I believe trance, like most other electronic music genres, is evolving more rapidly than anything else we've ever seen. Producers are having to get more and more creative with their sounds, and consequently, the music is always evolving.

Take trance a few years back. You'd use an 808 or a 909 or something similar, maybe add some slight reverb/compression and eq, and you were done. Now sounds are distorted so much that in some cases you can't tell which drum machine (or which actual drumset) was used for the original sample.

Same thing with synths. It used to be that a decent supersaw was deemed "good enough," but now it's not. Once again, producers are doing crazy things to distinguish themselves.

Of course trance is innovative and evolving! Just listen to A State of Trance each week. Always something different, pushing the limit!

Anyone who thinks trance hasn't been stagnating for the last two years or so is fooling themselves or new to the genre. I can listen to livesets from 2000 or earlier, and not only do today's productions follow the exact same formula, the work in these older sets is generally better in quality.

Tech-trance and electro-trance is the only salvation I see at present; Marco V, Katana, some Mauro Picotto (New Time New Place), some Ferry (Right of Way), and some Tiesto (Traffic). Progressive trance has been dead for years save some work from James Holden, Sasha, and Junkie XL; the Gabriel & Dresden and Markus Schulz variety definitely doesn't count. Uplifting is in worse condition, snowballing uncontrollably into the garbage bin that Armin plays on ID&T every week. I should also note that John OO Fleming is putting out some absolutely fantastic material, but more producers need to follow suit for his sound to gain momentum.

For trance's own health, uplifting just needs to die for a while. Sadly I don't see this happening. The ratio of good uplifters to total slices of cheesecake is just too small to justify keeping it up. Masters & Nickson - Out There (5th Dimension), Fictivision vs C-Quence - Symbols, POS - Remember (Summer Sun), Agnelli & Nelson pres Ultra - Holding On To Nothing (Club Mix), and Ferry Corsten - Indigo are just about the only uplifting trance tracks I think were worth the vinyl they were pressed on last year. That's still a decent number of great productions, but compare that with the mountains of crap that came along with it.

(Paul van Dyk is still a wild card. He's at a very critical point. He could either overhaul his sound and emerge the stronger or take a further nosedive into commercialism, effectively destroying his status in the trance community.)
