Why isnt Robert a regular on French national soccer team?

He has the best left foot among any French player, is one of the most effective dead ball specialists around, and not to mention can score "goal of the season" contenders from half chances. I can't remember the last time he scored un-spectacularly.
It will scandalous if he doesnt feature prominently in Euro 2004. |

Pires is better.
Robert's only been this good only this season. Show more consistency and he's a sure bet for a spot on national team.
Then again, France is loaded with good midfielders. |

judging on form in current season that is debatable...
I dont doubt pires' ability for a second but surely there can be space on a 22 man squad for a player of robert's goal scoring prowress. Pedretti? Dacourt? Even Wiltord is over-rated.
As for consistency I have never seen Robert play a poor game. He may not be as tricky as Pires on the ball but always seems to deliver the goods with a killer pass or a free kick. |

To be serious, i think Pires is a lot more regular, and Robert wasn't as efficient as him the few times he's joined the national team. |
