Hi,
I have a pretty good Kick sample, soft one (like the one Armin uses). Anyway, i got some problems making soft kicks to be clean, loud and clear in the track. Even after setting it at the MAX volume and compressing it so it wont get disstorted or anything, i can barely notice it in the track. Any suggestions ? I've tryed evertyhing but in vain! maybe one of you have the solution ?
Thanks in Advance. |

Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best ones. If you allready tried compression and eq you should try to decrease the volume of all other elements or try layering it with a very punchy 909 where you 've cutted the low's off so it doesn't get into the other frequencies. |

yea armin kicks are nice..
if your using a decent compressor, with settings for bass.. it should be working fine.. 4:1 ratio, little bit of gain.. find ur threshhold etc..
with the eq, its good to boost the low rang 50-120 cut a little in the muddy area 250-300.. and also boost small amounts in 1500 and 8000.. unless the kick already has high frequencies in the sample.
layering the kicks is also a good idea.. but i wouldnt set the max volume.. try lowering other instruments in your mix before maxing out different instruments.
here is a great site for what u need to know...

another trick i use is to put the kick and the bassline on a group channel together, and then add compression to that group. adjust the compressor settings and the individual volumes of the kick and bass until the kick is punching right through the bassline and it doesn't get lost. |

yea, I do that also.. basically in FLStudio.. assign the bassline and the kick to the same mixer channel and add the compression, and eq.
I would layer the kicks tho, that helps alot.. Mainly deep 909 samples |

I don't recommend layering kicks unless it's done intelligently. As far as making your kick hearable, it's all about eqing at kicks upper harmonics. |

layering kicks can be fun as long as u have a kick for each part of the spectrum, 2 kicks at 60hz is speaker suicide. |

hehe exactly.. i dont just put 2 random kicks down with same eq.. i usually find one thats good for low end. and find a sample that has a nice sound for the attack..
Cuz thats what your basically doing when u create kick samples by mixing others in. |
