This design is fairly common among good "audiophile" turntables. I know another company that has glass platters on their TTs (and now they come in a variety of iMac like colors). It seems to me that there are basicly two schools of thought when it comes to make good TTs (and not for DJing) some go for the keep it simple idea while others seem to add all sorts of extra counter wights and balances.
As for the torque question, it will probobly not have crazy amounts of torque but should have really low wow and fluttter. Lots of torgue is only a DJ concern when it comes to TTs. In fact many good turntables are belt driven (gasp!) because it cuts down on the platter vibration from the motor. |
