problem using soundforge 7.0

hey guys
just got sony soundforge 7.0
cool program, but i have a big problem
when i record from my decks, the volume is wayyyyyy
too loud on my computer... i tried the DC calibrate thing
but it didn't do anything
how do i fix this?

go into the little speaker thing at the bottom right of your windows desktop. you know the bit that hes heaps of diffenant sound volume levels :) then turn down the line in volume go into file and options and select recording and do the same.
does any of this make sence? im not very good at explaining things |

sorry mate that little volume adjustment trick didn't work...
my cord setup? quite simple- a y-cable going from the mixer's tape output into the microphone imput in my computer |

put it into the line input in the back for my version of how to fix it.
or with your currant way it would be turning down the mic in the volume bits both recording and.......um....the other one
does that help? |

I figured it out.
Instead of the tape output I used the booth output. My mixer
has a volume knob for the booth which I turned down, thus
fixing my problem.
:D

Indeed, you are using the wrong input. Mic input, as you might figure if you think a little bit, is for microphones.
You should use the line input, because your mixer outputs at line level (which is way higher than mic level). Using a line level output of your mixer and turning it way down to match the mic input might sound good, but it really isn't. First of all you're not in the optimal range of the mixer anymore, and second the impedances are not completely right.
Keep it simple, instead of figuring stuff out to detour the problem, fix it at the source. Use a line input. |
