i'm not sure how mail bombing works, but i don't think signing up and email address for numerous mailing lists & pron sites & like that is illegal.

mail bombing as in sending a load of random emails to the same address is probably unlawful and your isp can disconnect you for that.

spam is illegal in several countrys actually, its invasion of privacy or some bollocks like that...saw it on some program on tele...

Well since I'm giving you explicit written consent to spam my email addy (not bomb), I don't think you'd be prosecuted. And if it ends up working fairly well I'd be willing to post it up for download.

Consier yourself lucky! I get hammered with 100+ spam mails each day. Don't know why anyone would want them. A great pain in the ass to delete (2-3 days = 200-300), but necessary so they don't overflow your mail limit.

I opened my mail box the other day and found out my webserver stopped responding and said my webserver was full. I couldnt find out why and then my host told me I had an email address that wasnt checked. I checked it couple weeks ago and it had well over 9000 emails of junkmail. Took over 2 hours to check the mail and then another 10 minutes to open and anohter 10 just to delete them all. Oh the madness.

If you get junkmail and that thing at the bottom that says "click here to unsubscibe". Click that. That should get you more junkmail.

I assume you didn't read the first post...

Ok I know it sounds a little counter-intuitive, but I just wanna test out a filter I've been improving on the past few weeks.

Personally, Thats the dumbest thing I ever heard, Why would you want to sign up for spam, not even every filter in the world can get rid of all of them, If I were you, I not sign up for any of that stuff, Cause its going to leave to trouble for you in the future.

+1 for judging someone without knowing all the facts:rolleyes:

I know that once you get on their mailing lists, it's damn near impossible to get off them. I also know that [email protected] is already spammed on a daily basis, although not as heavily as I'd like it. And frankly, I don't care if I can't use that address, because I set it up specifically for this purpose.

Actually, if you were me, you would sign up for this stuff. Because you'd have my mind, and the same reasons for it as I currently do.

...hence the reason I'm working on my own.

Ok well here's an update, just cleaned out my mailbox last night and checked it today, out of 56 messages, 1 got through. Extrapolated, that's a 98.214% filter rate.

Of course I'm still not getting the amount of spam I'd like to get on a daily basis so I can really test out my proverbial baby, but I think it's doing fairly well so far.

I'd also like to note that it's still in a very early alpha stage. I've got some more ideas that I'd like to implement, but haven't yet, mostly due to the fact that this is a side project and I just don't have the time to focus on this all the time.

Anyways, if you want to help out, I found this nifty page that has links to major spammers out there, if you have the time feel free to sign me up for it, I've only gotten about halfway through since their posting on 4 Feb 2004. ([email protected])

In a few months I should have a version good enough to share with people, so if you want a copy I'll update when I get to that stage.

sounds good but can you filter out words like -

v!agra
vi.agra
v.i.a.g.r.a
vi-agra
viag*ra

or -

fre.e 0nline precript!ons
f.r.e.e on-l1ne prescripti0ns

no matter how many diferent combinations of typical spam references I create, emails advertising for viagra or xanax or some still bypass the filter.
