New Technics MK5 having problems....

My buddy has a 1210MK5 that he JUST received from the retailer.
He set it up and for some reason there is obviously something wrong. While the record is spinning it is NOT holding any sort of pitch. I mean it sounds like he is literally playing with the pitch slider up and down while the record is on.
This is happening after set-up right out of the box.
He says he put the platter on as instructed and everything is connected right, buit its like the record is waivering from +6% to - 4% to 0 to -2%, etc. Its VERY obvious.
Any ideas as to what this might be? It would be 2 weeks for him to get a replacement and he is trying to figure this out on his own. Or with my help. Or yours I guess. |

| ive no idea whats wrong with it. i have gotten my mk5's about 1 month ago and they are perfect. maybe you should take advantage of the return policy for new ones. i dunno. |

on the mkIIs i think the votage setting is under the platter, its either a switch or sumthing that needs a 180 degree turn with a screwdriver, not hard stuff.
either that, or you have dc electricity and the techs need ac so buy an adapter ;) |
