Changing the pitch on my technics please :toothless

So basically I never looked into increasing the speed on my technics before, because it would meant that my 1 year warranty would be void and I didn't want that to happen just incase something ed in the first year. But now it's been over a year, and i'm sick of my +8 being the factory settings (ie. more like 6.5% ish)

Today as I was doing a mix, I was a good few hours in and I wanted to stick down John Vesta - Gull, but i needed another +1% !!! i was ing mad and sad :( grrrr

So what exactly do I need to do to make my pitch actually +-8% ?

Thanks

Mike

Try slowly changing the pitch on the song that is playing out. I have a few records that are just slow tracks, like 3 Drives - Greece 2000 is real slow so when I want to mix it I will slowly decrease the pitch on the other track while also increasing the pitch of Greece 2000.

In my opinion, as a general rule, if you’re playing a tune at more than +/- 4%, you’re playing the wrong record.

Anyway, if you still want to. You have to take the platter off, unscrew the plate you find under it and there is a pot that you need to adjust in order to change the range. It’s pretty visible, and as far as I remember there aren’t any other pots on that board under the platter so you should be ok. Screw everything back up and you're good to go.

or buy a mk5mg :)

ive got tunes that actualy sond really good at at quite a bit over 4% one example is sasha/emerson - scortchio (darrens late night dub) is actualy still good at +9% :) imo

Basically there is a screw under the platter that deals with the speed of the motor, you basically need to adjust that. You know you have found the next speed as the dots on the plate will align again. If you can find a copy of the manual for the decks it actually tells you how to do it. Yoji Biomehanika does this all the time which pisses club owners off no end.

Mind you don't change the screw for the voltage as that would have a really nasty effect.

Cheers

Cheers fella's. Sounds pretty straight forward :) Will give it a go.

when you take the platter and casing off you will see two spots which you can adjust (they are blue if i remember correctly) - one adjust the stop button - effectively you can create a slight bach play when you hit stop and the other is for what you want. be careful though - you will have to make sure that you get both decks the same or it will confuse you for a while. when you have done it it takes quite a while to get used to the fact that just a tiny nudge will affect your speed a lot.

One thing to bear in mind though: depending on how accurately the pitch zero is set, once you change the speed range the pitch zero point might slightly move. In comparison to changing the speed range, changing the zero point requires major surgery (taking the bottom off, detaching the pitch fader etc.) Shouldn’t be a consideration for you as no one has fiddled with the internals of your decks since they were made and I’m guessing all the potentiometers are set by machine at Technics HQ – however, people who have bought their techs second hand or had them modded or changed in any way should take note.

Let us know how things go!

Ok first off no record will be unmixable with that kind of tempo. I mean if the song is on 33RPM and you need 1% more, all you do is press the 45RPM button, raise the slider all the way to the top, the top is the bottom of the 33RPM counter... and continure from there.

I actually would prefer a 8+/- on my TTs rather than the 10+/- as it decreases the point of accuracy, one little nudge might push it too much and so on.

ummm...... inreasing the record speed to 45 rpm would put it way out of range.

nah, 33rpm @ +8% = 35.6 rpm
45 rpm @ -8% = 41.4 rpm

so there's a pretty big gap between the max on 33 rpm and the min on 45 rpm on technincs at least.
