I didn't know where I should put this thread. Can anyone help me out with where I can find visuals software or programs? Preferably something separate from a player. Thanks guys!

I used to dj and now I pretty much only do visuals.

Now as far as the original question, there isn't really any "visuals" software that exists ( yes and no ) ... most of what is used is just video mixing software like arkaos, motion dive, etc etc just used to mix different video loops together.
As far as actual mixing it often involves a video mixer as well....

All the content is pretty much prepared in advance, not a lot of software is "sound reactive".

If you wanna read up on this check on vjcentral.com or audiovisualizers.com

( you can kind of learn the technics and equipment and software that exists and such on these sites .. there's also vjforums.com ).

I'll post an article on the subject when I get home " how to be a vj " ... quite interesting.

For straight clip playing with real time effects (warping, mapped tunnels, palette shifting, etc). ArKaos is pretty much the answer. I built/setup an ArKaos system at the nightclub I DJ in, and it works relatively well. Most effects are triggerable via audio in or MIDI and two things that are VERY important about ArKaos is 1]Stability 2]Dual-Head video card support (negates the need for a scan converter).

For rolling your own...MAX/MSP or GEM/PD -but those will require a serious devotion of time if you don't have a programming or DSP background.

The previous links of audiovisualizers.com and..umm...the other one are good resources to start with.

I'm pretty sure there's a program floating around out there that can take winamp .avs files and convert them not non-audio responsive visuals, dont know what it is though.

one way of making some vid loops easily :

1. Create a 4/4 beat ( pretty basic uh ) or play any music you think is "cool"
2. Play it with winamp and have a visu you like running
3. Record output
Voila!
