Paul Oakenfold - A living Legend ??

Hallo Party People !! I just wanted to ask you what you think about Oakey ?? I read many Articles in this Forum and recognized that some of you don't see (or know) what Oakenfold represents in the Scene!! Someone said he's just a DJ...NO he is surely more than a normal DJ !!! I had the chance to see him last year live in Switzerland (Atlantis Music Featival in Lausanne) and I will never forget what an awesome Set he did. Perfect control of his mixes, very charming to the public, guiding his Set from Underground Progressiv to Trance Tunes.I mean this is not a normal DJ, he is really God Like in the Business as everyone appreciates his Remix Qualities (U2, Stone Roses, Massiv Attack and so on...). It is sure that he had not his best year 2000 but give him a chance, he will surely be back this Year!! Anyone heard his new Mix Album "Travelling" ?? This CD shows his real face, what an intelligent Sound he offers to the Public and who else than Oakey could do that better? Anyone listened to his Sets at Creamfields 99 , Homelands, Home at Space or even Home in Sydney Australia (without doubt the Best Set I ever heard from a DJ, that is sure !!) ?? These Sets show what Energy this Man can create, and you don't want to tell me that someone at those Parties didn't like the Sound or the Face of Oakey...????? Someone knows the Goa Mix from Oakey -Nearly 8 years old but still considered as one of the Best Sets ever made by a DJ (for that time unbelievable what Sound he spun). So this is just my opinion about him, let me know what your opinion is about Oakenfold.

I have to agree with you, Oakey is one of my favorite dj's, he just knows how to play the crowd!!!!!!!

| Oakenfold is cool. I really don't care what anyone else thinks. Without him I wouldn't be here, and because his music (largely) got me into trance I will always have a soft spot for him. Oakey bashing has turned into a sport here tho - so I am sure there will be naysayers in this topic. Whatever. No one can deny the influence he has or will continue to have in this genre. You may not like the sound, but you can't bash the man. peez. |

I know he was the "TranceSetter" spreading the Ibiza tune over Europe and later on over the rest of the world. Also I know that his livesets are amazing, but still I think Oakey is highly overrated. He has had his best time already. It's ok for him to keep doing his livesets, but his remixes and productions just get worse and worse.
The fact that he is (one of) the worlds' most respected Dj is correct. This guy has had a leading role in the scene for such a long time, that he deserves that title. Without him we probably wouldn't be addicted.

Other than his '94 goa mix (which is ing amazing) I don't really like him. However that one mix compensates :-)
Has he done any other goa-ish Essential Mixes/CDs? Other than Another World or whatever its called.... |

| I never get too specific of types of trance(i.e. you probably can stop reading now). But I do have to say that Resident: Cream is by far his best I have heard. It is progressive, and contains some of the Tranceport stuff, but it is SOOOO diverse and interesting it is great. One thing I forgot that I like about Oakey is his timing - just when the track seems like it is getting repetitive, he switch it to something completely different - Resident is the best example of this - and he will go off on a different direction, yet still off the hook. I know I already posted, but I just remembered this. peez... |

for all the Oakenfold Fans I am posting a link I discovered last week, it is a Video Set from Oakey and Dave Ralph on their Perfecto Tour in the El Rey Theater in LA !! Please look at this Man and listen to this Sound...what can I say..this is Intelligent Trance at its best...follow the Mixes...can't mix a Tune better than he does!!Really impressiv when he gets to the Trancy Side at about 3h15...Oakey is God !!!

Oakey is the man! simple as that... and why did no-one beleive me when i sed he's one of the founding fathers of trance as we know it today (summer of love 1989 jukz :p :) ) ye he didnt have too good a year 2000 (maybe just over shadowed by the amazing artsts that have risen in the past year??) but if i know oakey (not personally) he'll be back with a venegance! i miss those hard deep-driving sets i used to hear!

| I would have to agree with you guys, Oakie is hella good, BUT I think its bull that in Ministry's Magazine they State him as the "Trance Dj of the Year". What the hell are they trying to pull on us? They're like making us want to go out and purchase a CD that they make profit off of! Its bull, Ministry's a buncha bull although they come out with Amazing Compilations and Sign all of the good dj's. I'm glad PvD hasnt sold out to them! |

| Oh yeah, and plus, the Tranceport cd made so much good sooo commercial like Binary Fiary's 1998...Ever since I saw most of my favorite songs on that cd i got pissed! I am "Paul Oakenfolded" |
