EDIT: Lets not forget that in the UK dance has crossed over into the mainstream. This means that there are tons of sponsorship dollars floating around that make many of the events financially feasable. Just about any large scale event such as the Molson Indy, sports events, etc. are only possible because of the sponsorship dollars. |
here's an example of that ..

HMV sponsoring an event in Hong Kong..
btw. Spundae ownz!! i wanna hitup one of their parties bad.. crazyness..

Fly down to SF the next time the US has a holiday that falls on a Monday. Then go out to Spundae's Sunday night party for that weekend.... Best party you will ever go to in North America.

no but one can improve things cant they. What is people in mexico said well we are never going to be as rich as germany so why bother with development? WHy why??? because you improve things. That is what life is about improvement of yourself and your surroundings |
Is it really that much of an improvement?
I think it's quite an objective question as to whether it's an "improvement".
Sure it would be nice to be like once in a while but I agree with others.
I'd rather see one or two headliners that "Toronto" brought in, than a little bit of a whole bunch. Ultraspin was perfect for that.
And business-wise makes absolutely no sense to pay large $$ for a name like "Godskitchen" when they don't have to.
They know the place will be packed with the DJ's name alone (given the DJ of course).
And oh yea, have you checked the government regulations on "raves" in the past couple of years?
It's choked the scene hard hence no choice of big, outdoor events.
Personally, there's lots of big names that have been coming down the pipe as of late, so what's the problem?? :wtf: |

I agree with the "less is more" logic. What's the point hearing 8 DJs in one night spin for an hour or so each? You get no flow in their sets, it's over so quickly.
Personally, I think UltraSpin events are right on for Toronto. G&D, Infected Mushroom and Rank 1 was one hell of a lineup. Adding 3 or 4 other huge names would not have improved the night at all for me. On regular nights at Guv, having Mark Oliver open or open/close for another good DJ is perfect too. Ditto for smaller events at System with someone like Deko-ze. |

whatever light wieghts JK
well tell you what when you hear fergie open for armin followed by ferry corstien then tell me what you tihnk?
Its a good experierence but to each his own and i do admit that having locals open for big names is alright but.... its also nice to hear a bit of variety in the big names as well. As opposed to hearing a local try and warm up for a big name
but.. i could be wrong
I am content with torontos scene but there is always room for improvment
cheers

Can't speak for all TO Clubbers, but I'd rather not have hard dance ( or hard house , or whatever the hell that type of music is called ) spun at clubs here. Fergie and the lot can keep it across the pond for all i care. The scene in Toronto is more then fine the way it is, lots of progginess, good house, healthy doses of breaks and jungle, and as always quality trance.
Jus my $0.02 on da matter. |

Ummm, anyone remember a party that had Anne Savage, Gabriel & Dresden, Infected Mushroom and Rank 1? |
umm yea and thats prolly one of the best this side of the world ever got ... i went for gatecrasher@nec in november and they had matt hardwick, scott bond , pvd , tiesto , armin ferry and jules and it was in an arena with 15000+ ppl and imo the party was in a league of it own ... theres no comparison to the events we get and the ones in europe .. |

Well, it's true that the scenes simply cannot compare. But we still get pretty insane line-ups quite often. For instance in June, Aria in MTL had Tiesto/Armin/Guy Ornadel in one night. Moreover all 3 DJs that night played 3.5+ hour sets. Musicwise, I think that's a lot better than at a festival where 10 DJs spin 1.5 hour sets. |
