I'm sure most of you are going to say right away that this sucks, but I wonder - does the RIAA have valid concerns? I'm especially interested in hearing what the people who make a living in the music industry have to say about this, and other similar matters where the RIAA has been involved.

(I know this should be in Music Discussion, but I'm lazy :p)

most of these labels can't afford to sue anyone, they can barely stay in business. The riaa doesn't give 2 s about them dan.

The article doesn't mention anything about anyone being sued. I think it has to do with the RIAA prohibiting the sale of mix CD's that have tracks that have not been licensed by the respective labels.
It seems that such permission would need to be given, in order to use the tracks for something that is going to be sold (presumably/hopefully) for profit. I'm sure royalties would also come into the picture in such a situation as well. But I could be wrong about either.
I don't know all the issues involved. Hopefully someone can enlighten us.
I just want to see all sides of the story.

a piece of any future accion related to their holdings

Does the RIAA have jurisdiction over international or overseas labels?

I don't think that RIAA should have any say on how another country enacts its own copyright laws, but let's say if u have an American DJ making an "illegal" mix CD with most of or all of the labels from the UK or Europe... then does the RIAA have the right to prohibit sale?

I doubt they can do anything, whatever they want to do, they can only do it here in the US. I remember the RIAA trying to sue a spanish version of iTunes last year because they were selling the songs cheaper than any other American company, I think they were legal too, as far as I know, they couldn't do anything.

Only member labels that the RIAA (Trade association) has can have jurisdiction and representation. Even if they are overseas labels.

The RIAA has a list of member labels. I would tell you where to find it but I have them blacklisted.
