i used to get crazy shin splints. but:
1) when i play bball, i use the nike shox supremacies (the richard jefferson ones), ive never gotten shin splints from them.
2) ive always wondered what those things nba players wear around their legs sometimes. apparently, they stop shinsplints before they start, so they might help, lathough ive never actually tried them.
also:
i build my shins in the weight room. take a chair, and a weight plate. put the plate against the wall, and one edge on ur toe, and lift the weight. this helps alot, too.

i constantly get shin splints because i run. I always have to ice hardcore. Usually the pain comes at the beginning of your workout but as your muscles begin to warm, the pain subsides. Unfortunately the pain comes back at the end of the workout and you feel like someone took a hammer to your shins. Jumping rope and that type of thing will give them to you. Try all the deep tissue massage things, ibuprofen, etc. those will help the inflation to go down.
Shin splints can come from weak leg mucles, more specifically the calf. I first got them when i started running because my legs were weak. My legs are like rocks now but i still get them. Take Phase's advice and try to strengthen your shins using weights.
and yay for me because track season is just around the corner . I hate the track. too hard on my shins. I also hate the coach, but that's another story :whip:  :whip: |

I used to run track in high school, but never got them taht bad..usually i walk them off, or ice them and stretch them out.
As far as bball goes, I just fractured my foot this past Monday so I'm on ing crutches for a month...makes it impossible to walk around campus, let alone stand up for more than a few minutes at atime. |

thanks for all the advise :)
i havent played ball in 3 days and it seems like the pain is going away. I've been putting on those "BENGAY" patches before I go to sleep. My shin used to hurt when I walk but it sorta likes but it's definitely getting better.

| I'm afraid the only cure is amputation. |
