Finally Learn Some Music Theory! (pg. 2)

The guy is just trying to make some money...Do you seriously think that composers think about what he wrote when they compose. Give me a break. It reminds me of those studies where researchers find that a certain chemical has anabolic properties and wanna be bodybuilders drink gallons of it, in the hope it's going to help them grow.
Music theory is an important subject and I appreciate all the people that take it to improve their compositional skills, but I want to know an answer to only one question.
How many succesfull hits has the guy that wrote the book produced?

I havn't read the rest of what's online yet, I'm about 1/4 through the 2nd part. But if the rest of it is as good as what I've already read then I plan on buying it.. (sorry if this wasn't the response you wanted)

Reading through this- I will admit its very interesting, and cant do any harm knowing it. Really though, learning the piano is much more useful. I can belt out great melodies 'on the fly' on my guitar because I just 'know' what works well. After learning hundreds of songs, progressions etc etc.. I can make my own without thinking. Now I plan to learn the keyboard and do the same thing. Theory will help the progression of this alot.
I will note some people are just plain good. TranceNRG69 has no knowledge of piano, theory etc yet his melodies just plain ROCK. This is rare.

I would like to hear the music of this no knowledge master.. do you know his website? does he have one?
TI2ance
He is on the forum. Ask him yourself.

Here is a quote from that site which says alot-

quote:
The point is, as a songwriter/composer, when you're trying out your new tunes and chord changes, you need to have at least an awareness in the back of your mind of the musical implications of introducing chromatic notes into a tune.

But we all can tell when somthing 'doesnt fit'..

But alas, I think those who completley disregard theory are only limiting themselves in their musical ability at some stage.

Thank you for that compliment :)

I think writing good trance music, or any type of music for that matter, is something that cannot be taught in books and tutorials. I have no musical theory, but what I do have is passion for the music. I don't know how I write melodies. It just seems to come out of my emotions. If I am feeling confident I'm more likely to write something powerful and epic. If I'm feeling depressed then most of the time my melodies come out dark.

Also you must be your own worst critic. Some days I'll work on a melody for hours and won't get anywhere so I move on till I feel more inspired.

My devotion to the music is probably my most powerful tool for composing. I love the music so much and I have listened to it for so many years, that my mind is some how connected to it in some sub concious way. Hard to explain, but sometimes just listening to a favorite track of mine will inspire me to write great things. My first melody that I composed a few months back was inspired by the track Mat Silver vs Tony Burt - The Ultimate Wave. After hearing this song I went into some kind of trance and I composed the melody to "The Relentless Heart". Although this melody was directly influenced by that track, it did not sound like it, but did have the same uplifting vibe to it. At the time I had just begun producing so my sound was very unrefined. But I sent the sample to Mat Silver and he loved it and wanted to remix it even though my track wasn't good enough to be released because of my poor mixing skills. I don't know what the future will hold for that track, if they will ever actually remix it , or if I'll eventually finish it.

But one thing I do know is I will never stop producing.

Peace
