| Knowing the mushroom guys it's most likely an standard 808 or 909 (not knowing the tune I can't say for sure) layered, with the hell compressed out of it...... |

| how do you compress a kick in fruity loops 4.1? |

I don't use fruity but would assume you set up a track with just the kick on it and then insert a compressor, you can use VST's in Fruity can't you?
Or compress the sample you are using first then bang it into the sequencer |

what you do is go to the track that has your kick on it. set the FX number that it will be on. Then go to the effect screen and add the compressor to the channel. play with the settings until its what you want.
if you don't know where something is...let me know. |

| Just a note: the actual kick is only part of what you hear - what gives a good kick it's tight snap and boom are FX. Compression, EQing, and reverb (depending on the track style) |

| Another Side Note (I always forget things) - you can easily mold the kind of kick you want using an EQ - so take something that is similar and use FX to make it what you want. |

If your compressor has a fast release time the gain will come up pretty much as soon as the attack's time is over. This can make a kind of 'pumping' sound in which we can assosiate the sound as being more loud and can make the kick appear louder and more fuller through the mix.
Most people here seem to agree that the Waves compressors, C1 and C4 are the best in the VST range... |

All of waves plugins are "the best" that's why they cost so freakin much! |

| I personally think that Endorphin can really help a kick drum along loads. It's free as the air you're breathing, at www.digitalfishphones.com - while you're there get the fish fillets plugs as well!! |
