Hi,

I have a problem. I currently have my pioneer djm300s hooked up to my soundcard directly via and rca to 1/8 cord. i recorded a mix last night and when i played it back today there was hardly any bass in the mix at all. i tired again i had the bass turned all the way up on my mixer and i got the same results. if i play my mix next to an mp3 the mix sounds like it was recorded from a transistor radio. everything is hooked up right, speakers-wise. i use klipsch 5.1 thx computer speakers. and my sound card is sound blaster audigy platinum ex. could there possibly be a problem with my mixer? because i have to turn the bass all the way up to hear it just minimally in my headphones, even with the monitor level high up.
i hope some of you can help me out to fix this problem.
thanks guys.

Well if there's no bass in the cue too, then I'd say it's a mixer problem. Sounds dumb, but you do know how to work all the EQ's right ?

Come on... of course I do.
Ehhhhhhh... whatever. Ill figure this out myself.
Dont bother replying everyone.
Take care!

Um nothing mite be wrong. Unless you are using a good soundcard, it could just be that your soundcard sucks ass and the signal it records isn't very high quality at all.

Same thing happened for me when i recorded. But i ran it through izotope ozone and it sounded 1000 times better.

Edit: nm i read ur post and saw whut your soundcard is. hmmm whut type of needles are you using

Check your connections, sounds to me you have a phase reversal problem (one signal is out of phase with the other). That usually results in bass cancellation (well, more than that, but bass is most obvious).

Hey thanks for your help vhx1 and Dj Thy.
Thy, I think I might have that phase reversal problem. Ive looked into it, check the connections. Everything is plugged in tight and in the right spot. What exactly is it when one signal is out of phase with the other? Is checking the connections the only fix?
Thanks again!
Dj Thy
It's usually a cabling problem, and even more precisely an intern cabling problem (not like, you reversed right and left connections).

If you made your cables yourself, you might have messed up the + and -'s. But most guys buy their cables here, so if that's the case for you it's not really plausible (I've only run into one wrong soldered premade cable yet).

Try connecting the output of your mixer directly to the Klipsch System (if I remember well they are active, so require no external amp). Listen if the problem persists.
I'm assuming you have another pair of speakers connected to your mixer when you are not recording. Does it suffer from the same problem if you connect that particular output to those speakers?

When problem solving, especially in sound, it's best to run through options one by one, and determine the cause like that.

Hit back when you know more.

Try different RCA cables. ALso whut program are you using to record?
Dj Flesch
sound to me that you might have it plugged into your mic input. This would be typical of a average to good soundcard with a mic in to produce a muddy bassless recording. Try plugging it into another input and see what you get then.

Also, you want to make sure that you are using your correct drivers in your recording program. Go to your prefs or options and make sure that you are using the drivers from your soundcard, not microsoft's or none.

Wouldn't that mean that it's either a problem with his turntables or his mixer ? If the cue isn't comming out right, it wouldn't have anything to do with things past the mixer.

IntegraR0064
do you have the turntables hooked up to a line input?

I have this same problem when I record on my laptop!

I think it's cause I have my mixer plugged into my mic imput,
but that's the only imput port I have on my computer.

I use soundforge to record... there's probably a way to fix the
bass with it, but I have no idea how to use it! all I know how
to do is record
