typical Above & Beyond sound

Does anyone know, how to produce the typical effect sounds, which Above & Beyond use in every of their productions?
I mean the 'acidish' sound, which is very remarkable in each production. Is it fm, or maybe hard sync? I don't know.:conf:

Thanks in advance,
Marc

i would probably guess access virus b....since me and etherium both have this unit i think he would agree. i think he told me once a and b use virus b and in their forums on their website there was a post of what they used. im sure etherium will post here and shed more light on this topic

The acidish sounds are indeed from the Virus B. In one of the threads there you can find a quote from Tony something to this effect "The acidish sound in the background is from the Virus B". Heh.

Like the acidish sound that carries "Day One" is the Virus B. The 303 sounds are the B as well. How you would make this is typical of how you would make any 303, lots of resonance and playing with the cutoff and distortion or saturation. As for the other sounds, not sure. Ask Jono.

achieving the A & B sound has been me and etheriums goal for some time. no easy task.

I've created many A&B sounds with V-Station, from their basslines to acid lines to sweep effects. I can bet that the use the Supernova for a lot of their work, alongside the Virus.

youre willing to share the A&B sounds, like the supersaw? or perhaps give a small tutorial? would be very nice...itīs always good to see how it works for a production n00b like me!

Yeah I'd love to hear some VST equivalents. I've made some of the good acid type squelches in Atmosphere but not nearly as good as the ones in say their remix of Day One.

this was posted by paavo (from above and beyond) in their forums when asked "what equiptment do you use?":

3. Synths-wise, at the moment we've got
Access Virus B
Roland JP-8080
Roland JV-2080
Nord Rack 2
Roland SH-101
Sequential Circuits Pro-One
Moog Prodigy
Yamaha AN1X
Roland Juno106
Oberheim Expander (shane 54s one)
Yamaha SY85
Korg Trinity
Roland MKS-80 with programmer
Waldorf Pulse
Roland TR-909

think that's about it - we're hoping to expand this, especially with good analogue equipment as we believe that as lovely as soft synths sound, the real thing still can't be beaten.

hope that helps a bit.

I wonder if they still hold their beliefs that analog is superior because I know that they got rid of that MKS-80 and I don't think they use the Juno that much in their productions. Also, they have an SH-101, one of the most powerful analog bass synths ever, yet they use ES1 (or ES2?) for their basses. Hehe. Anyway.
