if you practiced then im sure you could get to that thier quality. but to be the top you do need to be able to produce. i think top dj's get most of thier fame from the tunes they produce/play out not by how well they can mix.

well i really do hate the idea that someone has to be 'born' with talent, id think that anyone can be as good as a top dj (or anything else for that matter) if they are wlling to put the work in to it
*HaRRy*
I don't know anything about djing, but if it's anything like playing a musical instrument, you HAVE to have natural talent to make it to the top.

im sorry, but you do need talent in the first place. gibbohas it about right with what he said...

if you look at the ACTUAL best dj's (not armin, tiesto etc) they are all usually either hip-hop dj's or techno dj's. listen to the they do, and tell me that its all just practice.

:)

You have to have at least some talent and i do believe u can be born with talent. Everyones brain works differently, if it didnt we'd all want exactly the same things which we all blatently don't. Its the same with people who are good at certain sports because they have good hand eye co-ordination and can react faster than others.

yes, easily. a lot of the top producers are big dj's because of their tracks.

i think eddie halliwell is the highest only-dj, or zebeila if u dont count his bootlegs as productions.

also contacts are a main thing too.

Agreed, I think people like Tiesto, Van Dyk, Ferry, Sasha are up at the top because of their continued quality productions more than their DJing and crowd interaction abilities, albeit for these reasons too.

If you want to see proper technical ability like scratching and breaks et cetera then you have to look at other DJ's with other styles of music.

i think everybody is technically better than tiesto the second they do a transition, even if it is their first

hardly ;)

my point was that this statement is slightly exaggerated somewhat..

aye, one other thing id like to say though which is tied into the practice theory, is im not sure the other genre's with their scratching and stuff can be sure they have the best dj's, coz with trance you dont need to do the tricks so you would never practice or learn them, you practice getting the pitch so accurate you can do long mixes etc. id like to see a hip hop dj pull off a minute long mix before people can go around saying one dj from a genre is better than another tbh...

obviously people can be more talented than others but if you never try anything then whose to know you would be way betetr than sum1 else if you had as much practice as them.
