I didn't catch Ken Ishii's set at Aria last time... and I am not surprised he was schooled by the residents that night either, but dj's have their off nights..

Do I need to bring up that infamous Sven & Richie set in September 2002?? They were both much more messed than Josh Gabriel last weekend, and their sets reflected that. Yet, we won't question their abilities and they continue to get booked.. mind you, the last few times I saw Richie he redeemed himself. ;)

I'm going to check out Ken Ishii @ Circus. Nice to see they intend on booking headliners, not $ure how long that will la$t, but whateva.

first casualty = sona (or bare minimum change management again)

LMAO! The club rocks for sure. Even the Aria Owner wants free passes! *LOL*

It's kinda lame that Aria needs to go in their competitions thread to diss the DJs. It points out that they need to lower their opponents image to have a good one.

wtv. Aria still rocks IMO.

btw, HI2U all, I'm Simon.
Yeah, Steve was a bit abrupt on the promo there. But it's rare to see a party forum that actually has friendly ppl these days. Everybody jumps on your throat for being too friendly on them.

It's cool that the trance is not like. Keep it real.

I am not dissing Ken, I am just saying that Preach is better.
Ken is a nice guy but sometimes local talents are just better.
Nothing wrong with that since Circus is way more going for locals.

No complaints here, I actually find the residents @ Aria seem to outshine the headliners about 50% of the time, and I catch some pretty dope sets!! :D

I'm going to check out Nuclear Ramjet hopefully as well, been a long time since I last did.

Well this week is a bit of everything,
Runner & The Jet (LIVE) is very electro, electro-clash
Mini and Philgood range between techno and electro,
while G O'Brien ranges more between trance and electro styles.

nxt Friday Feb20th of course it's Nuclear Ramjet... more on the Psychedelic Tek-Trance tip... very tekky, proggy even lately..

Circus fridays will not be only techno.. it will also incorporate a bit of trance, electro, and basically all underground styles, to varying degrees, that work in afterhours, excluding straight-up house (which of course we save for the saturdays mostly)

Hope to see y'all soon

hmm... i just read the whole thread and have a bit more to add...

yes, residents often kill out-of-towners. many big name out-of-towners ride to recognition on the basis of their internationally distributed productions -which obviously have no real relation to their DJ skills.

you won't see Circus bringing huge out-of-towners every friday and saturday, to be honest, on the other hand, so we will be able to give residents, and many locals, a chance to shine...

as far as circus not surviving, i think anyone who goes, or has been, to the club itself, can see that it's something special. this is not a garage, or a big concrete room jam-packed with sophisticated sound and light gadgets, it's a beautiful room. designed with taste; pillars, mirrors, drapes, wood floors, bricks walls; a very different experience from other montreal afterhours. a lot has been invested in the design and look of the space, and i for one think it's a nice change of direction for clubbing.

as far as Ken Ishii, being a lover of hard tek myself, i would probably enjoy preach far more than ishii, just due to their styles. while ishii has been billed on friday nights in the past, it will be nice to hear him repping his more melodic, deep housy side on a saturday -if you've heard his recent cd, that's where he really excels, in my opinion

as far as the afterhours situation.... let's just be happy we live in the illest god-damned city in the world, huh?

Montreal's scene is so ridiculously superior to Vancouver's... haha.
