hey all, i'm pretty new to production but i have some really good ideas for tunes that i could make...i'm actually trying to get a remix of Filterheadz - Blue Car underway...anyways, as i said, i'm new to the production game, and i have two questions.
first of all, what software should i use? i was thinking either buzz or fruityloops, but i can't get buzz to work on my comp (it crashes everytime i start it), so is fruityloops any good to work with? is it possible to produce professional-sounding tunes using it? how would you rate it in terms of its ability to create nice-sounding tracks?
secondly, how can i extract vocals from an existing tune? the vocals in Blue Car have a weird effect applied to them and are really distorted, so i can't really sing the vocals myself (i do have a good singing voice lol :p) if anybody's already heard blue car, do you think it might be possible to extract those vocals and use 'em in my track? if not, how can i go about getting hold of the original vocals or lyrics? |

first of all, if you haven't read it.. read the thread stickied at the top of this forum..
second of all... (this is just my opinion).. but i recomend using fruity loops... I found it not terribly too difficult to learn it and start making beats... I got a song done within a couple hours of playing around with it...
However, if you want to get into anything serious you have to ditch all the fruity synths and samples and get your own... Right now, I only use maybe 1% of the fruity synths and samples in my productions... The reason being that they simply aren't that good... However, the fruity fx aren't too shabby and I still find myself using a lot of those... But I still love using fruity to produce because the layout is intuitive, more powerful than most ppl give it credit for and believe it to be, and best of all... VST's...
VST's are basically plugins that you can buy or get the non-commercial free ones off the internet...
Also... i don't want to discourage you or anything... But we've ALL had these so called "killer idea for a track" when we start producing, but most of the time either 1) you find that you cannot produce the sound you want in your head or 2) it doesn't sound as good as you thought it would sound when you had the idea in your head...
hope that helps... oh yeah.. do a search..;) |

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on the fruity synths. You can make some damn amazing tracks with those, but really its a matter of opinion. And about the killer track. I've found in my experience that my killer tracks just come out of experimentation. Usually i start having no idea where i'm going, and halfway through it really starts kicking ass.
My advice to you is use FL Studio, because it my opinin, it kicks ass. and its easy to learn (you can't beat that with a stick). And if your not familiar with Music theory, then go to the book store (you have no idea how much my music improved after reading a book).
And for the vocal thing, If you can find an A capella version of the song on the internet (p2p etc.), that would be easiest, but chances are you won't find it. So as for me, I shy away from vocals at the moment usually. i think its best to start with the music, and only the music.
Any way, good luck to you. |

What you need is a good vocal extractor program like "Vox Ripper 2.0"
It can identify the specific vocal frequencies depending on the sex of the vocal source. Simply let the "auto spectral analyzer" find the ranges for you and rip them to wav!! Unless you prefer to manually tweak it!
[yes...of course this is only science fiction right now, but don't laugh...it'll be on the shelves in a year or two! hmmm...has this been patented yet?]:o |
