Key Matching

Latley I have heard people talk about this, and its something I want to implement into my music.
Baiscally finding the 'key' that a particular track is in, and then make sure that the track that follows is in a similar or 'compatible' key.
Does anyone have any info on this? I have no formal music training so my knowledge on the terms etc. isnt the best.
