yo, i've decided finally to buy some monitors, these m-audio ones have been recommended to me and seem fairly spankin, any other suggestions, £350 is pretty much my top end unless there are some proper sexual ones for £400...

I think for the price they are great, this is what I've been hearing anyways.
BT loves them, although I have a feeling he's being paid a lot of money to "love them". He raved about them in the new issue of Keyboard or whatever it was. I'd also look into the Event TR8s. |

Save some money, go with the Behringer Truths. I hooked some up recently and I love them. I couldn't have asked for anything better for the price. The sound is superb and they pack a nice punch. :)
**edit: well, i guess you were only wondering about the ones you mentioned, but that's my two cents anyway :) |

| I have the first generation SP-8B versions of these. For the price I like them a lot, though I got them as the BX8s were coming out and paid only $300 for them new. The only difference is the new models push 30 more watts (130 vs. 100). The response is fine, though I can't imagine it is flat down to the advertised 37Hz--they're not that bass heavy. They fill small rooms nicely, enough for background music at a house party, don't suck too bad as a recording monitor and excel as a playback monitor. For $600 I 'd passs, but for $300 they're great. |

| I also had the first generation of these speakers, sold them and got behringer truths which in my opinion are better. |

I read on Jori Hulkkonen's webpage www.jorihulkkonen.com that he has a pair of Alesis M1 Actives in his studio set up.
How is it that a producer as successfull as him settles for the same monitors I just ordered, as opposed to having some really expensive ones, like Genelecs for example?
Having read various threads about monitors I have got the picture that you should get the best monitors you can afford, assuming that your studio accoustics are ok.
Should I go tell mr Hulkkonen that better monitors would improve his sound, or is the difference between good and heavenly monitors simply over emphasized?
C'mon. Educate the noob! |
