I think it's interesting to note that people associate their negative connotations about substance abuse with the paraphernalia used rather than the substance itself. What's the difference between banging something and smoking it if the effect is the same (obviously this isn't the case and banging is a much more efficient & stronger uptake method).
Personally I've never taken heroin and I don't quite understand the mystique surrounding it as the "ultimate" of all drugs. It's an opiate, basically the same thing as morphine, i.e. a painkiller. I think people are more drawn to the "HARDCORE" mystique of banging up than the drug itself. Maybe it's because the media has done it's part to demonize junk users and it happens to be the drug of choice of homeless people. Must be some powerful huh?       |

I imagine as everyone has already said a lot of it would depend on your personality. Some people become addicted to things very easily both mentally and physically, others do not. Certain substances that might be deemed 'highly addictive' (heroin NOT being one of them) I have tried and never had the need for a fix, etc. Also never have I had a problem with bad comedowns or any of that. However, due to other circumstances I have since stopped all use.
I do recommend, however, that you stay far away from heroin. |

I guess that means alcohol, nicotine and cocaine as well right? They are all in the same "league" insofar as withdrawal and addiction - they are just disassociated from heroin by our culture.
A junk fiend and a depraved alcoholic are one in the same. People struggling to cope with their inner demons by removing them from reality. The difference being of course that an alcoholic can get away with it due to the duration and connotations of their drug and a dope fiend can't. |

Its your choice if you want to try at the end of the day.
But I wouldn't touch the stuff 6 people I used to go school with it have been addicts now for about 6 years and half of them are in prison another ones near enough squatting in diused houses another dead, and the other one is running around the street mugging people and he will some day pick with the wrong person and I hope I get to see it happen.
And to think 6 years ago one these people offered me and a mate to go chase the dragon try the new high looking how their lives have turned out I'm glad I didn't. |

I think you're underestimating the drug...you can't really say something like "must be powerful huh?" until you've actually tried it. I'd say it's a powerful drug as in just it's addictiveness in that people will do anything to get it when they need it. It's not the "ultimate" drug but it can certainly be put it in the category of "hardcore substances" along with crack and stuff like that. |

| Well i have had personal with heroin. To be more specific my father. Thankfully I have always lived with my mother and stepfather. I watched my fathers multimillion bussiness go bankrupt. I watched a 250lb 6'6" man shrink to about 190lbs. Towards the last times I visited him I watched him nod out with a cigarette in his mouth only to drop into his lap and burn him without him even knowing it. Ya sometimes I wondered what it felt like but once you see the aftermath it really makes you think, is it worth it? to feel like that on the inside, then look like that on the outside? I have spoken to my father spuraticaly over the last 2 years. He does not have a home address nor does he have a constant phone number. I only wish the best for him, he is a good man who has been consumed by a drug. |
