Hi all,
I'm currently using a Soundblaster Live Platinum card with Cubase & loads of plugins to make tunes. I seriously need to upgrade this card...don't I? Does anyone successfully use a SB Live card to make pro tunes?
I've read on the boards that the Emu 1212M is the card to have! I've also heard the Yamaha sw1000xg in action and was impressed.
Can anyone give me some advice on choosing a soundcard. I want to make trance tunes using software only (No hardware) and record DJ mixes.
Anyone know which soundcards the pro's use. James Holden, Armin, Markus Schulz, Tiesto...etc...?
Would appreciate any advice/links you can offer.
Cheers,

Im thinking if you are happy dont get rid of it. From what has been discussed it seems your audio card does not affect the quality of your VST engine when it comes to mixdown down.
Most ppl I know of end up spending about a 100+ on a new audio card because they eventually want at least 2ms of latency. Meaning when they hit a key on their midi keyboard a vst will generate the note within 2ms, which is almost instantaneous. About 27ms of latency is achievable with an SBLive if you are using the latest ASIO drivers or even those Kx drivers which have been discussed on anthore thread here. not bad IMO
Another reason to upgrade is if you want to plug in some audio gear (say a drum machine) into your audio card or even record samples because SBLive does a terrible job when it comes to sampling from its inputs.
If it was me wanting a new audio card without needing loads of I/Os I would probably pick an Audiophile 2496 which is going for 100ish pounds @ digital village. http://www.dv247.com/icat/homeofferslist
The only reason I got an Echo Mia MIDI was because the folks over @ http://www.sospubs.co.uk kept going on about how great it sounds (plus I managed to get it online for 140 quid and that was how much an audiophile cost last year :)
I wouldn’t mind knowing what Holden, Armin, Tiesto, etc use, but maybe doing a forum search for ‘audio cards’ at http://www.soundonsound.com/ will help you out more
Or even reading some audio card reviews at ...

I suggest getting a better card like a MIA or an Audiophile so you can hear more accurately what your producing. Of course, this won't help much if your using cheap headphones or speakers to mix, so pick up a pair of M-Audio monitors or something similar. Good luck to you. |
