Breaks Track Looking for Love

I've got a bit of a down tempo breaks track that I was hoping to get some opinions on, especially the mixing/mastering. It's only 4 minutes long, so arrangement comments are also welcomed.

Aston - the Rhythm Syndrome

Hell, all comments good and bad welcome, let me know what you think. Thanks for taking the time!

EDIT: I have since trimmed the highs, so hopefully you all agree that they are no longer an issue
dj_alucard
yup i like this
those hats might be a bit hot..but the rest of the tune is nice..maybe needs more variance though..liek folling with the beats of sorts

good tune..remixable as well

Thanks for the comments alucard, I actually agree 100% with what you said. I think if I run a lowpass filter over the track I may be able to soften up the hats at just the right amount, might warm it up a bit more too.

Well, I'm hoping for some more comments before I go back to the drawing board, or I guess I should say sampler...

Nice track, I like.
You'd need a bit more meat around the bones - a more audible bassline and some extra percs (and fills!) maybe.

This would be cool if it had some male vocals and electric guitar in it :D
Tranc3
Yeah I agree with Mr. Mystery about the need for more "meat on the bones" - this feels like a track that's accidentally got a minimalist touch, when it doesn't want that.

I also agree with the hot hihats. Filtering them a bit might bring more focus to the overall track instead of just the percs, which would then in turn lead to a greater flowing sense.

So, Mr. Mystery wants me to sing eh? I don't have anyone else to do it heh heh. I think you're both right about the 'meat around the bones' issue. There actually was no bass intended for this song originally, but with EQ, the tone of the kick drum sort of became it. Also, Tranc3 makes a good point in regards to being accidently minimalist. I really think addressing the bass situation would resolve that.

At this point, I am sort of leaning in the direction of lengthening the song, adding a bass line, and singing, since I have this oh-so-nice preamp that I would like to make more use of.

I suppose I'll wait out a few more comments regarding the song to see if that is truly the best option.

Thanks again for all the help!

I'm not really sure a song of this type would work as well if it was longer, it'd start to drag imo.

First seconds reminds me the VOODOO PEOPLE guitar :) But later that thought fades away :) Very good track!
Sounds very chilly. My opinion is - remove the bassdrum and add some TAHITI (polynesia :)) style precussions and stuff and create a good minimalistic chill - ambient version too.

Very very tribal feel! now we need some monkey brains and frog legs and goat heart -> and voodoo starts . And some voodooo dolls too!

Good work
