Proposed new Alevel supergrades to identify the geeks and to aid university admission processes
Why dont they just make the exams harder, like they used to be?

| I wish theyd change the University grading system. Its piss easy to get a 2:1 but really hard to get a 1st, therefore everyone comes out with a 2:1 and employers can't tell who is good. |

I don't think il get a 1st, i want a 2:1 but i wouldnt go as far as saying it will be piss easy for me to get that.
I dont think exams are that much easier just think what people are taught are easier to learn. Like with Maths, what the corriculam was and is, is allot different. Plus teaching methods are allot better, and people have to learn in order to have a career as the life without gcse's or alevels, well there is not that much of a chance of getting a good job. Dad walked out with no grades at 16 nd got a job straight away, and now he's on £30,000 a year yet with still no grades lol.
THe worlds changing :) |

when my parents were my age not even 5% of people went to uni, and now theyre saying that 50% should go. Having a degree means much less now than it did, and the AS/A2 system is easier cause you get marked over a longer period of time (ie youre year 12 and year 13 marks count) but you can give up the subject youre worst at!
At my uni, everyone gets a 2:1 cause everyone had to get AAB to get on the course and isn't going to through away their hard work- it's the 1sts that are hard to get and really mean something.

Oh youve destroyed my illusions that a 2:1 is any good now
I thought everyone got a 2:2 and that having a 2:1 showed at least some ability to think
Now im gonna ahve to get a 1st |

Harry I agree with you, I just think its funny the way everyone claims that exams get easier year upon year, even though they seem too and i constantly remind my younger brother.
I'm not sure I agree about the 2:1 thing, everyone on my course had to get AAA, but it doesn't seem that 2:1 are any more common than a normal distrobution would dictate, or easy to get. However I am only in my first year, and not sure how grading works, i mean surley marks are adjusted to fit an even distrobution, hence the standard of students shouldn't matter as marks should be distrobuted normally, even if this means that the "actual" boundaries are higher.
I'm not sure if i'm making sense but i'm under the impression that the bottom % get a fail / 3rd regardless of their mark. |

im in my 3rd year so i did the old style A-Levels hence the difference in entrance grade. The grade boundaries are the same whatever uni you are at-
fail < 40
3rd 40-49
2:2 50-59
2:1 60-69
1st 70 +
last year there were 4 1st's, 6 2:2's and approx 100 2:1's on my course at my uni.

| my bro atm has gone 50% of firsts & 50% 2:1s, is it still poss to come out with an overall first just by getting more of them than 2:1s in the rest of his exams ? |

nah because all of your marks are weighted, a first is just wehat u get for thast piece, for example tw of your project dfor the year are worth 30% and 20% at the end of the year with ur exams worth 50%, and if got 65 marks in the first piece and 65 i nthe second piece you would be on a 2:1, however if you got 75 in ur exam ur ttotal for the year after weighting wud be 70% and a first.
for example in my networking course ive been getting 92 avarage out of 15 mini tests fworht a total of 50% at the end. so it means i only need to get 50 marks in the final exam to get a first coz it is worth 50% too at the end. however if i get 40% i nthe final exam,s i will have got 15 1sts before it but only one 2:1, and at teh end of the year i would get a 2:1 |
