I've never seen that type of insult used in this forum, only in Chillout, and (Somewhat disturbingly) usually by Americans. I always make a point to pull people up when they make comments like that, as I believe they achieve nothing and just contribute to the 'gays are sick' mentality that some people seem to have. |
well i have seen it used by the UKTA and it is used in everyday life here in america..and the debate is about america right now isnt it |

I'm not saying that it isn't in widespread usage, much the opposite in fact. I personally refrain from using it as I don't see being gay as a negative attribute, and I realize that it insults/hurts gay people when someone uses 'gay' as an insult. I won't deny that I see it used in other forums on ta, particularly by Americans & occasionally a UKTA, but I haven't seen it used in this particular forum. |

New Mexico County Now Allowing Same-Sex Marriages
Fri February 20, 2004 02:39 PM ET
SANTA FE, N.M. (Reuters) - Officials in a New Mexico county next to Santa Fe said on Friday they have granted their first same-sex marriage licenses, adding the state may become the next battleground over the issue of gay marriage.
Officials from rural Sandoval County, which is southwest of Santa Fe and home to a massive Intel Corp. semiconductor manufacturing facility, said they have already issued 10 same-sex marriage licenses after finding this week no laws on the books that prevent gay marriages in New Mexico.
The Massachusetts Supreme Court has declared that state's laws limiting marriage to men and women to be discriminatory, while in California, the city of San Francisco is openly defying state law by marrying thousands of same-sex couples.
"There's nothing in the law that I can find that would prohibit issuing same-sex marriage licenses," said Sandoval County Clerk Victoria Dunlap. She said several more same-sex couples have sought to marry.
"I'm sure New Mexico will become the next test ground," she said. "We're fairly open-minded here despite the rural area we're living in."
State officials on Friday were scrambling to find laws that addressed the issue.
A spokeswoman for Attorney General Patricia Madrid said their office has received two requests from state senators for an opinion on the legality of same-sex marriages in the state. The office expects to have an opinion on the matter next week.
"We realize the importance of this to the public," spokeswoman Sam Thompson said.
Gov. Bill Richardson, a Democrat who is often mentioned as a potential vice presidential nominee, has voiced his opposition to gay marriage in the past but does support equal rights for same-sex couples. His office could not be reached for comment.
Sandoval County officials said that other counties have denied same-sex unions because of a form written in 1961 that calls for one male and one female applicant for a marriage license.

You do have a prejudice against Americans though, so you should just admit that.

That doesn't make any sense dear. Since I am a straight man, how would I have any idea as to the thinking or mindset of a straight woman? It was a question addressed to the female persuasion. ;)
Yes lesbians are fine by me as long as they don't shave their heads.

thats true that most of us use gay as an insult. because basically, being gay is revolting to most people. in my school, i cant even count how many times someone says "fag" "gay" "homo(sexual)" lezbian sucker...etc.........gay marraiges are a disgrace to the morality of marraige between a man and a woman. that is is where marraige came from. god ordaned it with adam and eve.
now, i know most of you are secularists and atheist, and wont believe what i just said, so, why dont people instead not use marraige. because marriage came from religion. none of u like religion, but yet, many of u are strongly for gays getting "married". if religion is so bad, dont get married, invent your own union of your love.
........gays............. |

| Gays are not discriminated against. They are free to marry a member of the opposite sex just like everybody else. |

Honestly I don't really disagree with you much on this issue. But what would need to happen for this to work (and what I think should happen anyway), would be that the government would have to stop giving tax breaks and other handouts to "married" couples. These policies were fundamentally based on the idea that the woman wouldn't be able to pursue a career because she would be home with the children - but that's no longer true in modern society.
As the premise of the policy is no longer true, the reasoning behind it fails and it fully ought to be abolished. |
