If you can even get past the bios screen, try a floppy boot. You can flash the bios if you can get to the floppy. If you can't get there and it freezes in bios, the flash ROM may have gotten corrupted, which means toast. If that's the case, pull your hard drive and slave it in another computer to see if you can access it to recover your data. Get a geek to help.

*edit* one more tip. There should be a jumper on the motherboard where you can reset the bios. Unplug the power cable, remove the jumper, then shove it back on. I would try that as well if you're still stuck.

I think they all covered everything.

except you might wanna tweak your P-Ram and glaze your subroutines.

I too have an a7n8x it's a total piece of . It won't run ram at rated speeds etc etc. It's a VERY COMMON problem that occurs arbitrarily. clear your bios settings by moving the jumper next to it to the other position, turning it on, turning it back off and setting the jumper to its previous setting. If that doesn't work, you're pretty much ed without getting a new chip.

This isn't the only asus board i've ever had problems with either , gah...

my friend has this exact mb too... happened to him as well before he flashed his bios

Two Bios chips? Never heard of that one. Does the motherboard support such a thing. I've built about at least a half dozen computers and fixed piles others. Running four on line just at the house. Really, motherboards are not that expensive; about $150 for state of art, $80-100 for lesser ones.

a7n8x is one of the best mobos on the market... well, the deluxe one, dunno about the regular one.

it's an issue with saving the bios before version 1007 and if you have revision 2.0 v 1007 you're all set. clearing CMOS doesn't help at all.

and as for 2 bios chips, i think it's called bios saviour, got it from belgium, pre-programmed, for $60 (like half of that was for shipping). it's just a chip on top of a chip with a simple switch in the back. a very handy thing. http://www.techspot.com/reviews/har...our/index.shtml

yeah,m but sometimes you don't really think you got time to back up 70 gigs of trance, techno & house mp3 singles since 1998 :(

i'm so stupid, and i'll be so pissed if the 2nd drive with my music is toast...

the first drive was all programs & games, those are all burned on CD's anyways, that was the drive with the OS on it

UPDATE::

RESET the CMOS battery this morning, updated BIOS... and viola

back in action, no data lost on HDD's as most of us suspected...

i guess the cold weather just screwed with the CMOS battery a little.
