sometimes there are certain songs i want to start with but the intro is just so boring and plain sounding, while it is an easier vinyl to mix in mid-way through the set, it makes for a bland and dull start to a set. so sometimes ill start it at the very begining of the biggest breakdown so it sounds like the start of a song, and it get moving and gets energy a lot faster. ive noticed the longer the breakdown the better it is at this, like tauchers 'child of the universe' the big break get totally quiet at the start and goes into the vocals, a very good start for a mix, but the begining of the song is flat and boring. any of you do this or do anything like this when you start a mix?

I think a mix should have an intro that is really catchy and makes you want to listen further, instead of skipping to the next track.

It might sound a bit illogical if the songs starts with a breakdown and suddenly goes to full power, but that's just my personal opionion.

Playing live is a different story, because you would mix the boring intro after the previous dj's last song, so you can still have that beautiful breakdown as the start of your set.

I think it's just a matter of peronal preference.

PvD sometimes starts his sets on the breakdown, like with "rhythm gangsta - the crowd song". it's up to your imagination really, if you wanna draw energy right from the start, if you choose the right track, that's a good way to starts things off IMO yeh :)
Depends on the direction you want to give to your set etc
