hhhmmm...how easy do you guys think it would be to catch a bit of Jimmy Van M and then hit Boa for Scumfrog??? I'd love to see both!
MattVagrant
Jimy fookin' rules... I wanna go hear this.
Skipper
I hope Silke is back for this - she loves this guy!

Mark T - I don't think it'd be too hard to do both nights, provided you had the money to pay late cover charge at Boa.
Kytracid
Mmmm, haven't really heard JVM spin since he opened for PVD back in the days...can't really see him as a headliner though. His style is still a little too mellow and experimental at times.

Still, it's been a while since i heard his set, so i might just have to check out what he's been up to.
MarkT
Lafleche is at System too...jeez.

oh well...what's late cover at Boa $30-35? So $40-45 for a long night of MO, Jimmy, and Scumfrog? I'm sure I'll find a way to justify it to myself ;)

saw this guy at lotus. not impressive.

Lotus = not impressive.

Of course JVM sucked @ Lotus. in' Diggers wasn't that good @ Lotus. Who designs a club with the fookin' dj booth right beside the front door, w/ the only way further into the club taking (a continuous stream of) people right in front of the booth? Hahhahahaha! At least when the air conditioning broke, this wasn't so much of a problem!

He headlined Revival a while back, and absolutely destroyed the place. However, JVM is indeed not for everyone. I absolutely love his opening sets, but, that is because I have an appreciation for things like how tight his mixing is (much improved from the days before he founded Balance w/ Fortier, wherein he was know as Jimmy Van Melatonnin, and couldn't mix to save his life).

As he obviously doesn't play hard for opening slots, and because he predominantly does opening slots, many people write him off because anything that's not hard and bangin' and entry-level really just doesn't do it for them. Jimmy headlining @ Guv may be a far better representation of his capabilities.

Precisley... too many people write him off cause he's always opening for S&D and his sets are really chilled out. But this guy can tear up and then some. One of the best progressive dj's in the world if you ask me.

If you haven't seen him headline an event before, then JUST GO!!!

as matt said, he played a headline set at revival in the summer of '02. it was sooo good...probably one of the best sets i heard that year.

lol well i've seen him in the UK as well and i know many of his sets. his style and song selection puts me to sleep, but thats just personal. (especially since i despise progressive music--sounds like the sci-fi channel if you ask me)
systems dj booth is just as close to the front door as lotus's was. the problem with their sound system was actually their very high ceiling in the main room. before they went under, eddy k and YYZ Entertainment was going to move the main room upstairs. the downtstairs setup was just temporary.
and you know what? myself and my friends have felt more welcome at lotus than at guv or system and believe me we don't look like your typical blond barbie. you must have gone on a night other than business fridays because the crowd that i knew wasn't that bad at all.

This will be great. Everytime I've seen Jimmy live I've been blown away. He's so smooth - mixing, programming, tunes.
