sampling and resources

I've recently been using sampling my primary method of getting sounds (using Kontakt) and find that it uses up A LOT of resources, especially symphonic string samples. Is there anyway to utilize these resources better (without purchasing more RAM)?
I know that in cubase you can freeze the VSTi but that's a little annoying since you have to unfreeze it and then refreeze it if you want to change anything... |

have you found a way to minimize this? or is upgrading your hardware the only/best solution? |

This might not help if you want to stay using your sampler. But I use Halion and it only loads in the beginning of the sample into RAM so that it doesn't use up as much. |

Well, this may not be the best solution for everyone, but it could work.
I've also experienced this problem when using Vst's like Halion and especially Kontakt. Now I'm a fruity user and the great advantage of this program are the built-in samplers. You can just load in any sample you have, without the program eating up too much cpu. So maybe it's a good idea for you guys to install fruity, rewire it to cubase and load the samples in fruity?
This is not some sort of advertisement for FL Studio, just wanting to help! :) |

well useually what i do, i have a not so strong pc also..i make a loop with the choir/string i want, including everything i want in it and render it, to see if it needs adujstments or not...
as for the problem, i think choirs and pads/strings are big sounds that the engine of a software has to produce, with a quite bit of reverb, delay, and some chorus or something it just requirs alot i think..
only way to bypass it, is mute and unmute the instrument.
i use reason now, but i do know when i used Fruity, 2 albino pads, my pc went Knock out, but 2 leads , well it ate cpu but i still coulda handle it. |

RELEASE is big CPU eater! Try to decrease it to minimum! Not to zero but originaly they have about 70-80. 30-50 works fine for me if using reverb and delay effects same time! |

I just picked up a copy of Halion.. it's a much better sampler then Native Instruments' Kontakt... Is it just me or does almost everything NI make really really suck.. with the exception of perhaps Pro-53.. |

What's wrong with kontakt? |

it takes up to many resources - when I load big ass string samples it takes up a 1-2gb in the pagefile.. with Halion it only takes up about 300-400mb because it only loads the first 2 seconds of each sample... much more efficient |
