| Ok, my router is gayed up to hell. I can't get an IP from it anymore. but if i specify my IP to the 192.168.1.101 that it usually has when its working, i can change settings on the router, but i can't get the internet, so i have to plug into it directly into the cable modem, which sucks, cause i have 3 other computers that need the internet too. i've resetted the router, i've set everything back to default, but still nothing. i dunno, anyone know whats going on here? |

another possibility is that you noobishly disabled the dhcp client service in windows xp/2000. solution: turn it back on (administrative tools>services>dhcp client>open: start service |run automatically at boot| close.
I can't fathom any other way you could possibly screw up dhcp. It's pointless to use if you only have like 2 devices on a network though :) |

| my bad, you mean you can't get a WAN ip from it. call up your isp and have them reset you from their end. chances are you've somehow managed to create a bunch of modems or something on their end (changing your MAC or just generalized bull suckiness). cable sucks for that :/ |

Yep, what you've done is created like 90 million different modem profiles is my guess. Just call them, they'll sort it, just make sure they don't think you're a moron that barely knows what a mouse is or something otherwise you'll be tied up in tech support forever...:whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: :whip: |
