ok...i'm sure some of you have heard this tune already...
Quivver - Space Manoeuvres Prt 3
now despite it being production wise flawless hehehe...i was wondering about a certain effect in it. in the main breakdown, there is apart where kifer sutherland voice is altered to sound deeper. i was thinking about it and how does he do that without slowing it down?? it still sounds at the same speed??
enjoy the sample :D

What you describe just sounds like a simple case of pitch-shifting (as opposed to time-stretching). Pitch-shifting can lower the pitch without altering the length of the sample. You should be able to do it with any of a variety of audio editing programs. |

that's what i was thinking, but i just always thought (haven't done it in a while) that when you pitch bend it also changes the sample beyond just the lowering of the voice...i don't know maybe i'm wrong...maybe i should go and play with pitchbending before i post stupid posts hehehe... |

Well yeah, when you pitch it down it physically slows the sample down, thereby making it longer. My understanding is that all of the high end samplers are able to pitch up and down without affecting the length of the sample. You can achieve this in non-real time in an audio editor by first writing down the length of the original sample, pitching it down to the desired pitch, and then timeshrinking it afterwards so it's still the original length. In cool edit this usually doesn't sound that great, depending on the length of the sample anyways, so you might want to invest in a quality sampler/timestretcher, something I haven't done yet. |

The VariOs sampler is able to do this. The mc-909 can do it as well. They are able to alter the pitch without changing the lenght, or stretch it without changing the pitch, and they do it very very well.
I don't know of any software that can do this as well, or though I'm sure they are out there. |

same here :) very nice tune.
How about the STEINBERG VocalGenerator? You can play with your MIDI keyboard you favourite vocals with different melody.
We are talking same effect as in KAI TRACID "Trance & Acid" (Derb remix). |
