| yeah - pretty cool (and cutting edfe) to offer classes I think. My roommate's brother goes to Berklee and he was telling me that DJ Swamp and DJ Logic have both appeared recently as guest "lecturers." I only wish there was a way us average folk could go and take these classes. |

Really? I just read about this in the Chill Out Room. :stongue:
I'm sure this isn't the last time it will be posted as a new thread either. :p
*EDIT* Although, this thread was created before the one in the COR, 13:31 vs. 13:35. |

| i'm sorry, but this is stupid. it only shows how trendy djing has become. those people probably don't have any real passion for djing like a lot of people on these boards...it can be a past time, if you really love the music or something...that's fine, but its just is a slap in the face to teach this at a university to any and all real dj's out there... |

Haha I agree...
And dj1212, what do you mean by you wish the "average" people could take it? From what I understood, I figured if you have the money, can't you just sign up for the class? Or you have to be special or something? I don't understand heh. |

Berklee is a music College and you must be a full time student to attend. This isn't like one of the classes you see advertised in the back of a DJ magazine.

I disagree, I think this is an example of how the DJ has finally come more into acceptance as a musician and not just a human jukebox. Berklee is a college of music where they have drummers, guitarists, etc. and now turntablists.
DJs like QBert and others have really made turning the turntable into a musical instrument more mainstream. It sounds like this is what is being taught in the class, how to do scratching, drumming, etc., essentially turning the turntable into a percussion instrument.

well...i suppose the students that will be taking the classes are interested in music, but i was thinking along the lines of people taking so they could sit there and say...yeah dude, i dj. that would be like fat people saying they exercise when all they do is walk around the block... |
