Which producer has the best sounding kick drum? (pg. 5)

Yup, the UAD1 is surely nice, especially if you want that "vintage" sound. Of course, compared to the real stuff (which 80% will probably never be able to listen to in comparison) it gets in the ballpark, but doesn't get it 100%. So what. It still kicks the a** of most native plugins, and for that price you can't get even one of those emulated effects in it's hardware form.
TC Powercore is very nice to. Here it's more bread and butter plugins, they don't have that "special" character the UAD comps and EQ's have. But, and one big but, the reverb on the TC is superb. It's M5000 stuff, and if you've already heard that one, you can't say it's bad (ok some people prefer the Lexicon sound, but you need to go to the very pricy Lexicon stuff (480/960 like) to get near). The UAD1 reverbs are nice, but they don't come near the PoCo reverbs. Some people say the new Plate 140 is coming close right now, but I've personally not been able to hear it, so I won't comment on it.
One nice plugin pack also, is the Sony Oxford pack, especially the EQ. Very expensive, but VERY good.
So eventually, I think the best choice would still be to get them both. Each DSP card has it's good and bad points. But one fact still remains, it's not because you got awesome gear that your songs will be awesome too. It's still the one using it that is the limiting factor.
To stay on topic, the best kick is the one that fits the tune. But if I have to give one example, it would be Oliver Lieb. His kicks always have something unique. LSG - Hidden Sun Of Venus (Oliver Lieb mix especially) has a very good one. |

I have just ordered the UAD-1 as I have heard quite a few good reviews on them (more good than bad). I have also ordered the Cambridge EQ. And two quality trance producers use them...mmmmmmm...can't be bad.
If it's that good I may stick another in there (plus a Virus TI) :D |
