Soundcards?

I am in the process of buying an Alienware (www.alienware.com) computer. If you choose the audio savvy comp's, you get several soundcards'

M-Audio has some very expensive one's, M-44, M-66 and the M-1010

Are these better than the Audigy 2? I figure they are, as they are $100's more.

OR is the Audigy 2 an OK soundcard for production?

thanks

peace

this has been discussed an un-godly amount of times... use the search function.. but if you don't see it, stay away from Sound Blaster - Sound Blaster is for consumers, only people who just listen to music and dumb/cheap producers use them..

I would seriously consider looking at another place to buy your computer. Looking at the lowest cost system, for what you get, you're paying $1100 dollars more than what it would cost to build one on your own. You get no monitor, and you could get the same parts off of newegg or pricewatch for roughly $700. Those machines may look "cool," but they are majorly over priced.

I agree with that.. Alienware builds great systems but are REALLY expensive.. I built a 2.8Ghz system with the same exact mobo/video/ram/19" monitor for about $1200 less then they would of charged.. AND I was able to pick out my own sound card (M-Audio Audiophile 2496)

Totally agreed. Honestly, alienware is for people who like to spend thousands more so they feel like they are getting more performance. Buy a dell or something if you are too lazy to build it yourself.

and if you don't know how to build your own PC, take the time to learn.. it will come in handy for the rest of your life most likely..

yes it isn't absolutly important that you get a great sound card to do trance.. I've done my best track since I've started on an integrated POS sound card.. but it's a good idea to get a nice one if you want to take advantage of ASIO and record since you'll get a really bad hiss with most SB cards..

Anyone have the M-Audio Audiophile USB? I know it is not top of the line, but have people had good results with it?

NOOOOO!!!!!!!!! DON'T... BUY IT... IT'S TERRIBLE!! M-Audio should be ashamed of that product... It sounds great but it's terribly unstable and the inputs do not play though the surround-mixer (you have to record the input and play it back to hear it)

buy the Audiophile 2496 PCI - I sold my USB version and bought the PCI version and am very satisfied with it..

i have the audigy 2. I think its worthless for production. Puts out pop sound. And it's interface is ( in my opinion) downright annoying! If you've got the money buy a quality sound card for producing.
