Cubase is flipping out on me... Need advice

So I started up Cubase today just like any other day, and I was doodling around as usual when it occurred to me that something was wrong. For one thing, Cubase would randomly skip certain notes in the midi sequence I was making. For example, I could play a single bar on loop and it would play like four or five vartiations of that bar, skipping a note here and there, and then playing it back correctly on the next loop. Sometimes it would skip two notes in succession, sometimes it would get them all right. I wasn't using any automation mind you, it just seemed like the program grew a mind of its own. And I tried a variety of VSTi's and they all had similar problems. I've never had this problem before, and I haven't installed anything new recently. I tried rebooting, starting from scratch, opening old files, and the problem always seemed to manifest itself in one form or another. Does anybody have any idea what's going on??

Oh and another thing, on one track it would play the first 3 notes and then go silent until the track looped back, and then it would resume playing as usual.

And oh yeah, for some reason hitting the "stop" button in Cubase caused the volume knobs in the VSTi's to jump to seemingly arbitrary positions (which of course it never used to do).

Is there anything I can do short of reinstalling? This is driving me batty :whip: .

Call tech. support
hey cheggy
Just reinstall it mate. you won't lose any data.

Cubase pops a few strips of acid on me every now and then as well, but i think its more to do with some questionably stable programs. The program itself is normally quite behaving, although I notice that some plugins just make it go spastic. Are there any plugins that you have recently started using. They may have been installed ages ago but only run recently.

Try reinstalling it first though, or email tech support if you have your reciept or whatever.

Is the tempo of your MIDI sequence matching the Cubase tempo?

hmm maybe you have somekind of midi channel plugin on? They work just like plugins for audio channels but instead of changing the audio data they make changes in the midi sequence. You can check them in the mixer's midi channel section.

about the problem where hitting the stop button makes VST volume change: you might be using automation even If you dont know it :p check for the green letter 'R' switch on the upper left corner of your vst window. If its lit (green) then your vst plugin is reading automation from the sequencer. If its grayed out then your vst is not reading automation.

well I hope I made sense & helped you to solve your problem.
