Need some help

ok, I am really new to producing music so this will probably sound like a really stupid question..

I'm trying to find a good program to make basslines, so I downloaded rgc:audio Triangle II but I haven't got a clue how to get it to work.. Do I need another program to get Triangle to work? Also I don't understand what VSTI's are..

Could someone please help...

This should be in the sticky topic imo. "How to install VSTi's"..

In Fruity: Install them in the x:\fruity\vstplugins\ folder or in another VST folder you choose (you have to select it in the fruity settings somewhere, can't remember). In fruity choose right click in the Step Sequenser (where you add samplers etc). Insert channel --> More --> refresh (bottom right) and select 'fast scan'. Your installed vsti's should pop up. Check them and close the window. Now you can insert them like the normal fruity synths.

Cubase should scan for you vst's when you start it up automaticly.

Well VST stands for "virtual studio technology", and VSTi stands for "virtual studio technology instrument".

There are programs out there that are VST hosts. These sequencers programs allow you to run VST instruments and fx in them. You need a VST host to run Triangle.

Examples of these hosts include Fruity Loops 3.5 and above, Cubase, Logic, Sonar and a few others. Fruity Loops is always a nice place to start as its quite a simple program to learn (especially in comparission to Logic and Cubase).

As for running Triangle, I am presuming it is a subtractive synth. Try out the presets and find something that is close to what you want. Then, have a go with the nobs to see what they do. If you have no idea about how to operate a synth, have a read of the virus manual. Its availabel from the access website www.access-music.de . Otherwise, learning how to use synths really is a matter of practise. You other option is to go for a synth that is designed for basslines only.

Hope that helped. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. We were all noobs at one time. Just make sure you have a read through the sticky threads. There have also been a couple of threads about making basslines, so run a search for "ATRC bass" or "ATRC bassline" and see if you can find it.

Thank you, thats really helped,, I've got it working in Fruity Loops now. I can probably check out the tutorials on here and understand them a bit more now..

Another question..I know that you can't just run VSTi's in Reason, but is there a way of getting them to work with it? as I've been working with Reason and kinda got used to it more than any other software..
hey cheggy
Not really, no. Reason was designed to run by itself without any other programs. A lot of people will tell you that you can run it through rewire, which is true, and into cubase so that you can use VST stuff with it, but most of those people don't understand how much a pain in the ass rewire is.

So I'm going to say no to that question, you can't use VSTi's in Reason. Sorry.
hey cheggy
Also, if you are using Reason, have a look at the free refills at www.reasonstation.net It might help you making some bass sounds using subtractor
