W32 / Netsky-B Virus

My machine got infected by this new virus yesterday, it emails itself using your SMTP to any email address located in any document / file on your HD.
Fortunatly I have removed it, but symmantec said it was infecting pc's at a rate of 50 an hour.

Security experts have warned of a new mass mailer worm, W32/Netsky.b@MM, or Netsky.b.
Antivirus software vendor McAfee's Anti-Virus Emergency Response Team (Avert) said the worm is infecting PCs at a rate of 40 to 50 an hour.
A memory-resident mass mailer, the worm copies itself to folders on drives C: to Z:, including the words 'shared' or 'sharing', presumably to achieve peer-to-peer propagation.
After being executed, the worm emails itself out as an attachment with a randomly chosen file name.
Avert believes the worm may attempt to clean up the MyDoom backdoor by deleting the registry keys that load it at the system start-up.
The attachment may have a double extension, such as .rtf.pif, and may be contained in a .Zip file.
The email includes a variety of messages, including: 'I have your password!', 'about me', 'anything ok?' and 'do you?'.

I'm not sure how i got the virus, becuase i dont have a hotmail account and i wouldn't open suspicious email. Anyhow, i realised after the web admin at a German University sent me a nasty email telling me i had just sent an email attachment with the virus, even though of course i never sent any such email. |

if you have hotmail your safer from virus emails
i get loads of them, i can even look in them and not get a virus.
however if you use outlook your ed coz it downloads all the emails then has a preview window which the virus can excape from.
im getting about 3 "mail failed" messages a day atm all viruses... |

my computer fine, trend micro seems to just scan every now and again automatically.
finds nothing of course, either anti virus software or im just not getting any virri. its all good either way :) |

| OE is the spawn of Satan, it saves all you e-mails even AFTER you have deleted them. You have to compact all your folders to actually get rid of them. |

The key is to get norton AV to check ur emails as they are downloaded to you off the server ;) |

| The combination of using Norton AV 04, Outlook 03 and disabling the preview pane protects me from anything virus writers wanna throw at me :D |
