Ok, you got the in part right already it seems.
So, I imagine you have created a midi track that takes your midi controller as the input. What do you put on the output of that track?
Either you can use a midi output of your audio interface, then you need to have a sound generator connected to that (either a synth, sampler, drumbox, whatever that makes sound and can be controlled by midi). Keep in mind, most midi controllers like Evolution, Edirol and M-Audio ones are just that, controllers. They don't have sound modules so can't produce sound.
Either you "connect" a VSTi to the output of that track. You need to have activated a VSTi first in the VST instrument rack. I don't remember for all versions, but in SX2, the MIDI OUT activity indicator DOESN'T flash when no midi tracks are actually outputting midi on a physical port (so they don't blink when using VSTi's only).
If you have midi devices that respond to a certain midi channel, make sure you are sending the data to the right channel.
So, for best results, I suggest you try using one of the integrated softsynths that come with Cubase.
Open the VST instruments rack (F11 on SX), select a synth. Create a midi track. Select whatever port you use for the controller as the in for that track. Select the softsynth as the out for that track. Play something. It should make sound. If it does, you got that part down already. If you are sure you got a midi sound module (so not one of those controllers like I said above) connected to the midi out of your audio interface (or midi interface), select the midi out in question. Even when nothing is connected to the midi out connector, the midi activity light should already flash. If not, there's probably something wrong with the setup.
Report back if you have any more problems. |

Arite I got it, the problem was that in the left column in the sequencer i didnt 'SELECT' the vsti itself as the input.. |

Yes, the sequencer has no way of knowing which instrument you'll want to control on that particular midi track (they still have to invent programs that can think instead of you on that level :D), especially if you have multiple instruments.
It's possible to set up a default in and out port in the device setup, but it only applies to hardware in and outs... |
