hi all,

the output in reason as always been low, compared to playing an mp3s in winamp (even when reason is clipping).

just by chance i happened to play an mp3 while reason was playing
and the output from reason went up considerabley to a similar level to the mp3 playing in winamp.

if i stop the mp3 the output from reason is low again but if i pause the mp3 the output from reason stays high.

can anyone explain this??

cheers for any help.

also reason seems to have gone 'always on top' how can i stop this.

Hey man,

I'm just trying to help you, so never mind if i say things you're not interested in.

As for the output of Reason in comparison with WinAmp, i don't know the cause of the problem, but nevertheless:
If you want a better output you'll have to route your stuff the right way. So what you wanna do is connect an equalizer and a compressor the empty rack, to the main thingy in the empty rack. If you dont understand this i'll somehow hand you my standard file i use in Reason. Routing is very essential in Reason, and the ways you can route stuff is endless. Furthermore, you can always change the volume of your computer, i did too. You know in the 'Settings' screen. and about the Reason on top thingy you spoke off:
Just click the Preferences menu somewhere under File menu. There you'll be able to change this...

By the way, I always use headphones when creating music, i think it's better than to create music in REason with the sound coming out of your systems speakers...

Cheers m8, hope this is some useful e :D:D:D:

Cheers

now i've restarted my comp the sound level is low again weather the mp3 is playing or not???

do the mp3s play (alot) loader on your system than the output from reason.

i preferred it the other way as i use my headphones and at full vol there not very load:mad:

First off: Reason outputs with a 3db overhead, so it'll sound quieter than an 'equivalent' sound.

Okay, I think this is your problem:

Winamp can manipulate the actual output level that Windows puts out (as opposed to a buffered sort of volume control that some other players use). So, when you boot up Winamp, it jacks up the OVERALL SYSTEM volume. And when you close it, it goes back down.

Solutions?

Well...I don't know how to stop Winamp from ing with your system volume, sorry. :(

But, if you go into Control Panel->Sound you should be able to adjust the overall level yourself. Set it to the max, and Winamp shouldn't have any perceivable effect on it.

Obviously make sure that Reason is using the same sound card output as winamp in the audio settings. Some sound cards have different output settings with different audio route which could effect the final volume (asio vs mme vs primary sound driver vs mixed vs 1/2 wav out vs blah, blah, blah....)
