02.20 Deep Dish (Crobar NYC)

Wait so it is 12:54PM and I just got back to school from Deep Dish last night, this morning rather. OK so let's attempt to recap the night. Arrived at Crobar way too early 9:45 (give me a break, it was just logistically easier ) with my partners in crime, aka Christina & Sejal. We were pretty toasted from the red bull vodka mix we had in cab down & at school. So JP (aka the coolest guy in the world) meets us outside, and we get in with no problem. It is UBER early so the club is devoid of all people minus the staff. JP gave us the VIP tour, which was definitely amazing. I remember saying this a lot last night, but it is totally true "Crobar will DOMINATE NYC nightlife within a year's time." Seriously it is massive like Roxy, yet the chic VIP areas all over the club make it feel super exclusive. My personal favorite was the Bamboo Forest .

OKOK So by 12 or so the club started filling up & by 1 it was PACKED. Deep Dish took to the decks and the music started to jump off. From there the night was an incredible mix of fun people, amazing music, crazy lights, and just DEBAUCHERY. Songs I can remember:
Way Out West - Mofo (Soundscape Mix) [this wasn't Deep Dish it was the resident who was REALLY good too ]
Diamond Life - Louie Vega & Jay Sinister Sealee feat. Julie McKnight/Numb - Stephane K
Nightvisions - Sultan feat. Stephanie Vezina
Time - Elisa (I went CRAZY for this SONG!!!)
Depeche Mode - Halo (Austin Leeds & Christian J Mix)
Sineweaver - 5th Order

Songs I didn't hear, but they could have played them when I was outside smoking or in the VIP room (there was "different music" in that room, hip hop LOL):
Breezer ~ Sasha & Junkie XL
The One I Run To - Miro
Work To Do - Sander Kleinenberg

Since we got there so early we left pretty early, around 4:30ish. I kind of wish we had stayed, but the girls had achy feet hehehe. The night on the whole gets a 9.999999999999 which can be mathematically be proven to be a 10 & whom am I to argue with math!!!?!!?!

So in conclusion people that rock:
Deep Dish
JP!!!
Christina
Sejal
Jordan (go Sejal hehehehe)

Ok pics will be posted in the gallery (no not turmills!)

Till the next party (tonight).

Take care and *Never Stop Dancing*

~Jon

BTW Ran into COLIBRI (David) & his friend, who both are CLEARLY in the know because we were up in front dancing up a storm

I guess I must have totally different taste than you~
I got to Crobar around 1am, dealt with the smarmy doorfolk who were more than willing to take money to bring you to the front of the line...but not into the actual club....ugh...we finally got in around 1:30.
Crobar is awesome, visually and acoustically sensational. I agree with you that it will dominate NYC nightlife and rightfully so. It is a great venue. The wind tunnel between the two rooms is very cool ~ it's a great design and cool buffer between the two vastly different types of music being played. I really liked the video screens which take up the entire wall in the main room ~ lots of potential with that kind of set up. The costumed dancers really added to the funky mood.
Anyway, it was my first time seeeing Deep Dish and I am sorry to say that I thought that DEEP DISH SUCKED MAJOR ASS. Seriously, they just couldn't get a good groove going. I've got no problem with dark techy tribal beats, but they'd have a long long long build, slowly bring up the pace and mood...and....right when you thought they'd bring you to the top....they'd just drop it right back down to the bottom again. Over and over and over again. It was the must frustrating night I've ever had in a club ~ people around me just kept saying "! ~ these guys SUCK!" each time the build crashed and the peak was dropped. It was all unfufilling musical foreplay as far as I'm concerned. We kept hoping that it would progress & get better, but by 4:30 we gave up hope and bailed. Glad to have checked out Crobar finally, pissed that we wasted so much money to see these clowns. I should have listened to one of my friends who saw the same thing happen when Deep Dish played at Twilo. He said it was the worst night there ever. Now I know why.
Should have gone to see Victor Dinaire!!!

Yeah from the track you spotted it looks like they played a really weak set. Those tunes are sooo ing old. Last year at space they ing tore the roof off. Hmmmmm guess they are hit or miss.

We got there at 1 as well. Crobar is a nice venue. It has a really nice phazon system - probably the best one I've heard so far. But the venue was smaller than I expected. Also, Deep Dish did not play at their best. It was a mediocre set and they had some technical problems like cd's skipping.

I heard Deep Dish at the Guvernment which was amazing. Perhaps next time they will deliver ;)

I hope Sasha Digweed delivers! :D
SineOne
first time @ crobar last night.. sick venue.
the best sound system I've ever heard in a club.
in the hands of the right DJ, I predict chaos & mayhem for future events.
colibri
dd played some super seXXy tracks
with some crazy drums and euphoric
moments...

i agree the gig wasn't perfect but
it was definately VERY creative
and often times so f sensual

i would see dish any night of any
given week!

as always trance@cu was having the
best time and flirting ceaslessly ;)

regarding the "cd skiping" it was
done purposely... and amazingly
transformed into a high note which
climaxed into another unbelievable
track!

for 2004:

nu.nrg + crobar = paradise

They may be old but I would KILL to hear diamond life. Deep Dish def. isn't for everyones tastes. I don't know i've never seen them live, but their latest GU is one of my favorite sets of all time.

There was no resident DJ - Dean Coleman from Bullitt Bookings opened for them. He had a great set. We even heard a remix of Brother Browns 'Under the Water' - classic song on a great sound system. Sweet!

As for Deep Dish...it was a bit of a Deep Snooze. I agree with the majority of observations here. All foreplay, going nowhere. It was quite frustrating.
