Techno mixing...oy

I just completed my first techno set...surely the most intense, concentrated mix session I've ever done. I usually mix prog and trance, and I have to say that techno is, in my experience, the hardest genre to mix. Everything needs to be really precise and timing is so bloody important to it to make it sound good...if anybody else here mixes techno, can you give me some tips for how to make it sound really good?

rly hard to mix
but imo the best and funnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnest genre to mix

ur never bored wen u play techno... with techno u actually make music out of music opposed to just mixing it

if your hitting your cue points and doing some spot on phrase matching then itll sounds decent

just use some FX if possible, filters etc

when i can't find good trance in my local shops , i can always rely on some good hard techno..

so the last couple months i have picked up a nice bunch , and is it ever fun.. i think you can be more creative.. now i just need a 3rd table...

yay to techno!

Be diversive :)

Most of the loop-based techno (I assume you are talking about this type of techno) is quite boring when one track is played for too long.. Mix quick, use quicker cuts, let tracks come back when you've mixed em out for a surprise, etc.. Make a story using your mixes, since most of the tracks won't really tell anything by themselves (if you understand what I'm trying to say)

Although my type of techno is not really suitable for that, I play somewhat deeper and like to use records that tell stories by themselves..

Depending on the venue, I usually work up to some really funky techno and sometimes use my turntablist skills with it.

In my opinion mixing Techno is easy, making it sound interesting is another thing totally. Sometimes phrase matching is not possible with techno as you have such long sections with nothing new coming in that you use to count off with. In these cases it's just a question of making sure you get it right on the bar instead.

The sort of stuff I try and sneak into my sets are usually Dave the Drummer type productions and some Chris Liberator.
